motownmutt started following the idea "In common Twitterers" in Twitter.
Cameron Walters' reply to "stop following" was just promoted to the most useful! motownmutt and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Hey alan,
Sorry about the trouble with following. We're making sure that the link in the email works (and it will go out with the next code push in the next day or two) and I also have a solution for you right now:
Visit the page at http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/to... and click the big yellow buttton labeled "I have this problem too". After that, you'll see the text "You're following it on your dashboard. You can stop following it," in which there is a working link.
Sorry about the kludgy workaround, but it will stop your email.

I'm not sure, but I think after it takes you back to the original topic, there's a small link on the page that re-asks to stop following. I clicked on that, and so far no more emails. Someone want to go on the panopticon TOS thread and throw some troll-bait out to test it?
Incidentally, I thought there was an option you had to click to get emails, but it appears to default to it now. Speaking for myself, I preferred to be asked before being subscribed to the thread, but others may feel differently.
As always mdy, thank you for keeping such a keen eye out. I'm constantly being re-impressed with your ability to keep up on topics, and your consistent helpfulness. It's a great pleasure.

#4 You must not abuse, harass, threaten, impersonate or intimidate other Twitter users.
#8 You must not create or submit unwanted email to any Twitter members ("Spam").
____________________________________________________________________________
1) Scraping and retweeting your content, *might* be a violation of #8 when combined with other factors of the user's behaviour. What's the definition of email? It sounds like he's rendering tracking tools useless for SMS users who have asked to be removed from his lists. By itself, I don't think it's a clear violation, as disagreeable and abusive as I find his conduct.
2) His behaviour toward @mailourmilitary, is to me, a clear violation of #4.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Item 1. Scraper feed:
I've created a feed that did the same thing, but disabled it, for the reasons being discussed. The only tools to deal with it right now, as profoky pointed out, are notification, block and privacy settings, or the cooperation of the person.
Item 2. Harrassment, intimidation:
The person's comments on 4/29 were abusive, harrassing, threatening, impersonating and intimidating.
For him to seek out and focus his anger at someone who did not seek him out, and to make comments like the 4/29 comments is abusive. We protect freedom of speech up to a point, but all politics aside, when what appears to be an unstable person starts acting abusive and intimidating to what appears to be a person minding their own business, I, for one, sit up and take notice.
I have strong feelings regarding politics; but they are unrelated and irrelevant to the current discussion. I sometimes react angrily, but hope that I wouldn't react the way this user has. I wouldn't want to limit anyone's ability to voice an opinion, or create content as tickled the fancy. But his treatment of mailourmilitary went beyond editorial comment and sits squarely in the category of an abusive cyberstalker. That alone should have been enough to have put him in time out. His additional disruption of others' ability to use the service productively, by itself might or might not be a TOS issue, but it adds validity to that conclusion.

...and motowntownmutt is going to keep on asking this question.
You're on someone's page, and you view a 140 character tweet you want to retweet. You copy the whole thing, hit the home link, type RETWEET: @ and hit paste. Now you want to edit out a few un-necessary words so it fits 140. After 10 or so characters, you hit backspace and all of a sudden *POOF* you're taken back to the original tweeter's page. You click back to the page, back into the textbox, hit backspace twice and *POOF*.
This did not used to happen. Now it does.
Was this something maliciously done by a departing team member? Was there any documentation, code comments, anything that could be a clue to fixing it?
Was this somehow an added feature to help alleviate the cache problem, (which is what the upgrade was, if I remember correctly)?
I realise keeping twitter afloat is a never-ending job, and I sympathize. I'm just asking why something that was fixed once, is now broken worse than it was before, and there is no official word on it.
A) It's broke and we have no idea how to fix it.
B) It's broke but we have other things to fix before we fix it.
C) It's a feature and we don't plan on fixing it.
D) Thank you for your submission, you will be ignored in the order in which your message was submitted.
motownmutt replied on May 01, 2008 16:09 to the question "Typing over 140 characters, textbox loses cursor focus" in Twitter:
It didn't used to do this. It's something that changed with a recent twitter upgrade. For instance, if I paste in over 140 characters and try to edit it down to size using the backspace, every time I backspace a character, the cursor focus moves out of the text box.
If twitter doesn't plan on fixing it, it'd be nice to know. Was this a deliberate change, or is it in fact a bug?
I understand twitter has limited resources, I'm just hoping that my feedback helps make the user experience better. I don't see a practical reason for the change.
Thanks for any response.

motownmutt asked a question in Twitter on April 28, 2008 12:20:
Typing over 140 characters, textbox loses cursor focuswhen typing over 140 characters, the cursor focus jumps out of the text box. It seems to sometimes page back a couple of web pages at times, and I have to hit the forward arrow to get back to the text I was typing.
