Dan T, I had the same issue with a friends laptop and found it was due to a faulty memory module. You can remove the memory cover under the laptop. I removed one but it still didnt work so replaced it and removed the other and the laptop booted up ok. I have replace the faulty memory from crucial.com for only £15
