Hmm... There is an option to reset the desktop in the settings menu, but that would undo all icon placements, and I'm not even sure if you could access it if the program is running that slow.
Try this:
1. Rename the folder
2. Start BumpTop
3. Rename the folder back to its original name
That may work as a quick fix, but an option like what you mentioned would be a welcome addition to the program.

Whenever requesting help running any type of application, its a good idea to provide as much information as possible. Saying something as generic as "the app is crashing" basically ensures that no one will be able to pinpoint your problem and help you at all. Try listing:
-Your computer specs (processor speed, memory, graphics card, etc.)
-What OS you're running
-The version and revision of the program
-Any and all error messages that occur
-Exactly when, and how it crashes, including a detailed description of what actually appears on your screen at the time.
A comment on the question "Will beta testers get complementary license keys for bumptop professional?" in BumpTop:
Last I heard, the developers were thinking about having a free version, and a paid "premium" version with a few extra features. – MTFaye, on December 07, 2008 01:46
A comment on the question "Will beta testers get complementary license keys for bumptop professional?" in BumpTop:
Sort of. Beta testers just report bugs when they find them. While that is an important and helpful part of development, its no where near as much work as the actual programmers put into a project. In fact, some beta testers don't do a damn thing. They just download a beta to play with before the actual product is released. – MTFaye, on December 06, 2008 20:12
MTFaye replied on December 03, 2008 07:04 to the problem "Image on desktop does not display correctly" in BumpTop:
Interesting... Can you reproduce this bug every time?
If I understand you correctly, you:
1. Delete an image file.
2. Copy an image file to the desktop that has the exact same name as the deleted image file.
3. BumpTop then displays the previous image, instead of the new one.
Or are you copying and replacing the image file?
Also, whats your OS? And what version of BumpTop are you running?
MTFaye replied on December 02, 2008 17:58 to the question "unable to delete a shortcut on the desktop" in BumpTop:
Is it also on the desktop when BumpTop isn't running? If so, that one is part of Windows, and can't be deleted, but can be removed using a setting in the display properties menu.
For XP (not sure if/how Vista varies):
1. Open the Control Panel
2. Find and open "Display" or "Display Properties" which may be under "Appearances and Themes" depending on which view you are using.
3. Under the "Desktop" tab, click the "Customize Desktop" button.
4. Remove the check mark next to "Internet Explorer."
5. Click "OK"
6. Click "Apply," then close the window.
A comment on the discussion "Testing Beta Release 14, RC2: next 10 people to email us get an invite code" in BumpTop:
Bumping an old topic, whining in all caps, and asking for something that clearly goes against the entire point of a PRIVATE beta isn't going to help you or anyone else.
If you want to use the software that badly, just sign up for an invite like everyone else. If your entire incentive at this point is just to use the software by any means necessary, then you missed the entire point of beta testing. Its about helping the development by searching for and reporting bugs in incomplete software, not about getting a program before its release date so you can "ooo" and "aah" your friends.
Saying they will "NEVER" release the software is just incredibly ignorant. – MTFaye, on December 02, 2008 07:39

I don't think it would be a good idea to just give free licenses away to all the testers. I'm sure the testers make up a significant number of people who are interested in the product enough to buy it. If someone is interested enough in the product to actually apply for beta testing it seems like they would usually be interested enough to be a potential customer. Giving away free licenses to all the testers might ensure that there was absolutely no income from practically the entire initial user base. That just doesn't sound good from a business stand-point.
If you like the project, I say just support it by paying. I doubt the team is going to ask for a very high amount, anyway.

1. Try emailing them and asking nicely. Thats what I did, and they signed me up the next day. Whining demands in run-on sentences probably isn't helping you at all.
2. Answering every single email for a software project in person can be an enormous task by itself. Programming is incredibly time consuming, and programmers have lives, too. Don't be offended if you get an automated message.
3. This is a private beta. You are not a "customer." You haven't paid for anything. You are not entitled to anything, so don't act like you are.
