OK just about every link on Digg reboots my computer in Firefox, I tried the same links in Opera, IE and Google chrome and they worked fine. I have no idea what's going on but it might have something to do with the mother board or cpu. I read on another forum about someone having the same thing happen and they had the same mobo and cpu. – James, on September 06, 2008 08:18

It happens a lot on Digg. I just clicked on the >iPod nana 4G leaked really-real spy shot< link and my computer rebooted. – James, on September 06, 2008 08:03

O.K. , I had roughly the same problem. Here's the fix ~ like it or not. Click on the Bookmarks tab, then on "organize bookmarks". From there proceed to back up your bookmarks to a file in (for instance) "My Documents" or "desktop". Next use a high quality uninstaller ( I recommend the free "REVO UNINSTALLER" ) to completely uninstall Mozilla Firefox. REVO will SAFELY uninstall all registry entries and file references if you follow the simple instructions. This complete removal of the existing Firefox version is the key to eliminating problems with the new version 3.~. Once done, just download and normally install the new version of Firefox and restore your bookmarks. Finally, re-install your favorite add-ons and plug-ins, re-start Firefox once and it's clear sailing!! At least so far - so good for me. Hope this helps y'all.

Certain links have also caused my computer to shutdown in Firefox3. It's not a blue screen reboot as i have my computer setup to not reboot on errors. The said problem links will shut it down every time and only in Firefox. I've tried to reproduce the shutdown in Opera, Internet Explorer and even Google Chrome and they work fine. Firefox 3 being my favorite browser I hope you figure out what may be causing this.
My system
GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H mother board
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Brisbane 2.9GHz 2 x AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor
4 GB G.skill memory
Windows XP OS

Fresh install, no tinkering, made the database and the user can access it. I'd rather e-mail you the URL for now, but don't know your address. Also, going to bed this second, even though you posted 6 mins ago, so expect a very delayed response. – Thomas, on September 05, 2008 10:17

I'm surprised to hear that you're getting the error page without corresponding messages in the web server's error log. It's normally pretty reliable, in sending the error message to the log.
Is it a fresh install? Or have you tinkered with it at all?
Can you check whether there is a database for it to connect to and that you have the DB settings correct?
Barring all that, can you send us some details on your setup—for example, the version of PHP you're using, and any related packages?
Is there a public URL you can point me at that exhibits the behavior? (I doubt I'll discover much, since the error page itself doesn't reveal much, but it may be worth a try.)

Hi Thomas,
I'll assume you were intentionally demonstrating the problem with people including multiple issues in one post by doing so yourself? ;)
You said:
"In short: I know you will immediately respond telling me that by trying to organize things, that I'm "putting words in people's mouths" potentially, and that it's better to be in a huge confusing mess than an organized easy to navigate system because therefore it's "as written" instead of "as corrected"."
To the contrary, we very much want to provide tools to better help organize & manage support requests, ideas, etc. and have had many requests for forking and merging tools. We are definitely considering the best way to solve this problem.
And to address your final question:
"Another side complaint: Why don't posts get updated with progress reports? Shannon's Grand Input was enjoyed by all 6 months ago, but no "we've done this!" replies have been made."
Yes, we recognize that this is an issue. We are currently working on tools that will make it easier to track, find and update topics that need status updating. So the answer is, it's simply just hard to find these posts in any efficient way -- and there are a lot of them.

Yes, I meant boot.php, and I'll get a friend of mine to elaborate on the chown situation when he gets back, he's much better at that than I am. – Thomas, on September 02, 2008 17:37

Thomas,
config.php get's used to override the settings in boot.php (which I'm assuming you were referring to when you said base.php). It doesn't exist in the pure-source download but gets created when you customize a helpcenter with the auto-configurator tool. That will let you contain your changes to the source entirely in one file, so that you can easily upgrade to a new version.
As for your problem, I'll forward this to ezra, our contractor who works on helpcenter to see if he can help you diagnose the problem.
also chowning it to the webserver is bad, you should chmod it instead
Please elaborate; why is it bad?
