MyMainMan asked a question in Flickchart on June 02, 2009 20:02:
The duplicate of Cloverfield leads to strange problems. For example when I'm ranking the best movies of 2008 I have had Cloverfield Vs Cloverfield as a comparison and in my top list both of them appears next to each other.
So fixing at least the duplicates before adding new films would be great.
By the way, if the same title appears in a comparison on both sides, couldn't that in some way send a signal to a list of duplicates automatically? For example store on of the names in a "potential duplicates" list.

More missing filmsMore missing films in the database:
Duel (1971) by Steven Spelberg.
Mirrors(2008) by Alexandre Aja (starring Keither Sutherland)
The videoclip for Summer Love(2001) dosn't work(don't know what film it is, imdb has many with a similar title, maybe a Turkish movie?)

Great!
I just love this site.
It's a shame that the speed has dropped so much recently since the post at lifehacker.
So I guess you are busy at doing everything to get the speed up again.
Without this happening I think any other added features is of no use, since it is so slow that it's almost unusable to us pre-lifehacker users.
I'll make a donation directly after I have posted this reply.
Why no trying to show the "speed Vs cost" button more clearly, maybe directly under the logo, so more people will make a donation? I have the feeling that no software optimisation will help if things are moving like they do now..

Suggestion list...Make it possible to rank a film directly in the favorite list. Not som many clicks, just a "rank it" button.
Make it possible to edit the list directly, manually.
When doing rankings (especially earlier on) I also found that some movies where way down the list, when they are put in as comparison to another movie. Why not make it possible to mark them for later ranking? And when I feel for it I could just then press a rank the "marked for later ranking" button where all these films can be ranked by the 3-step comparison.
When it comes to errors/problem you could have a separate button where I can report if :
1. There is a duplicate of a movie in the list. I have seen a couple already, cloverfield for example.
2. Something is incorrect about the film. The year, spelling mistake etc..
3. If a trailer doesn't play (sometimes it just takes you to a black box) or if the audio is out of sync(which quite a big number of them are).
if you use buttons in the contexts of the problems, it is possible to automatically "catch" the movie name, trailer etc and the problem type (different buttons for different problems). In that way many more problems would be reported, since the users don't have to go through the process of manually writing a post and problems would get noticed earlier.
Make it clear when there is a movie that is done in two or more versions over the years, maybe with the whole picture ghosted, highlighted or something else that gets your attention. Otherwise there is a great risk of rating the wrong movie(which I have done for a couple already).
Or make a side note about it. Some films also share the same name. The film "Cypher" (2002) for example is also known as "Brainstorm", which also happens to be the name of a 1983 movie.
Some way of getting more information about the films that are ranked would be great, maybe like in IMDB where users write a summary about the plot, or is it even possible to link to that directly?
I have noticed that there often are some films that I have forgotten until I read the plot and remember that I saw the film. Or films where I can't remember all the details, but I can judge it more fairly if I read about the plot again. And (for international users) some films where the title was translated. This translation was more common before the mid 90;s(at least here i Sweden) and it seems like older films has less trailers, so that is also a potential problem.
Make it possible to rank films in the lower ranges, for example films that is at place 100-300. Or make it possible for the user to manually input the high and low range(any number).
Make it possible to suggest films that aren't in the database directly at the site with a form, maybe where the user is required to insert an imdb-link.
Make it possible to rank movies just by one director.
Make it possible to show different top lists. For example one based on the the users that has done the most rankings. Or by director or actor.
When it comes to the "hasn't seen" top list:
Make it possible to sort movies I haven't seen based on other things than just the top-chart list. By director, genre, year and so on, and in these "sublists" sort by where they are on the "overall" top-list.
Show the trend for a film, if it's moving up or down a certain list. If it's becoming more popular. Create a list based upon trends where the biggest mover upwards is the number one and so on. It's would possibly be a great way to put the highlight on lesser known films, which might be unfairly judged if nobody knows about them.

Only 500 movies shown in "Favorite movies" or "Movies xxx hasn't seen" lists. No matter how I choose to view the lists(choosing all or 100), I can only see my top 500 films that are in either "Favorite movies" or "Movies I haven't seen" list.
MyMainMan replied on May 31, 2009 18:11 to the praise "Like the method used to rank searched movies" in Flickchart:
I also like the 3-step feature.
Another thing that would be great is if you added a "Continue to rank" button, so that I could compare the film to three more films again.
That way it would be possible to continue ranking a newly added film until it "settles". And also for films that for some reason is ranked very, very low.
As it is now I have to press the back button in FireFox, and then choose to rank the movie again.
This is one thing I find I do very often, so it would be very useful
MyMainMan replied on May 31, 2009 18:04 to the idea "Increase frequency of comparison between already compared movies" in Flickchart:
Not sure if what you wrote in the last post here addresses this, but I think that one thing that can be frustrating when comparing movies with filter set to 1-20 top movies (or any range), is that the number 1 is compared to the bottom movie, which isn't necessary when the list gets "refined".
Often I just need to move a movie a couple of steps down when doing this "range filter"-comparison. Why not set it so that a movie that is -2 to +2 steps away from the movie you compare it to? Or even a certain percentage of the number of films in the range, 25% for example(which i what 5 out of 20 is when doing +/-2) , e.g: For top 50 that would mean Int(50*.25*)=12 films. Film 23 would be compared to something in the 17-29 range(+/-6).

The great movie "The Seven Samurai" by Akira Kurosawa is missing in the movie database! The great movie "The Seven Samurai" by Akira Kurosawa (#14 at IMDB top 250) is for some reason not in your movie database. Curiously "The Magnificent Seven", which was a Hollywood western based upon the more acclaimed Japanese Movie IS in the base.
Edit : And another great movie not in the database is "Nikita" (La Femme Nikita, 1990) by Luc Besson. But I think I have posted about this already.
MyMainMan replied on May 29, 2009 02:06 to the question "Only the top 20 "favorite movies" (for myself) can be shown." in Flickchart:
Ok, it works!
There are a couple of errors or missing functionalities creeping up from time to time, but I'm using it extensively right now(over 3000 rankings since I became a member yesterday!) so I guess this can be expected. I've also got around 40 add-ons/plugins installed in firefox so it's kind of a good "testbed" for possible conflicts with these.
Love this site already! Got loads of suggestions for improvements(like automatic favoite director lists based upon the lists that you create for the favorite films(since the directors for each film is listed) , but I guess I'll have to start another thread!

Stephen King's The Mist (2007) duplicated (two of the same, different ranking for them)There are two occurencys of "Stephen King's The Mist (2007)". Both have a different ranking, making it lower ranked overall compared to if it would have been one instance of it.-
MyMainMan started following the question "Same film appearing twice in my chart" in Flickchart.
MyMainMan asked a question in Flickchart on May 28, 2009 01:30:
Rating problems for the topmost 3-4 movies. When manually ranking movies, the top rated movies aren't handled correctly. For example the number 1 movie seems to always be set against a much lower ranked movie, not the number 2 or number 3, so it's almost impossible to "downrate" it. The same thing goes for movies nearing the top position (around 2-4), they never seem to get the chance to go for the top spots above them.
Edit:
If i choose to rank the top 20 movies(with the default method, not manual), it works as it should for them, so it's kind of a "halfway fix"
I have also noticed that when "ranking down" movies, they just go down one step at a time after "the first round of three", and movies ranked much, much lower down the list gets a very high ranking (since the first movie just get ranked down by 1).
MyMainMan asked a question in Flickchart on May 28, 2009 01:24:
Only the top 20 "favorite movies" (for myself) can be shown. On my "Favorite Movies" I can't choose the "2" for movies 21-40, when clicking on it I get an error message about server overload (the melting server thing). This is at the same time as when other things work (i.e there probably wasn't any server overload). No other number works either. And when I try to show 50 or 100 movies on the screen (with the drop-down arrow), I get the same error.
In other words : I can't see more than my first 20 favorite movies!
