I'd love to be able to import my contacts from MobileMe, too.

In the mean time, I use a little app called "A to G" to export my Mac OS X Address Book to a .csv file (Comma Separated Values) that I can import into a Gmail account. Of course, this is manual - there's no automatic syncing for it, and it does require that you get a Gmail account, but with the number of services out there that only allow Gmail + Yahoo contact importing, I'd say it's worth it to get a Gmail account just to pull contacts from (and update it occasionally).

It really would be nice to have MobileMe support, though, so that we don't have to go through a hassle like this.

Mobile Me is my only email account ( Apple-Mac). Does this preclude doing a friends search? Must I use another client??
