I have a similar issue with my 2002 VW GLX triptronic transmission (sealed). I have 90000 miles on this car. recently it started showing problem with gear shifting. problem is more apparant when it is cold. The gear wouldn't shift and the RPM is just raising...I am really frustrated with this VW. I had so many issues with this car since i purchased it. this was my 4 th vw. older ones were ok... i guess the new cars aren't built to the customers satisfaction. I really disappointed with VW jeapordizing its quality.

Also 2002 Jetta 1.8t wagon, been having issues after first starting car won't shift out of third until I stop the car and restart. 115K miles, also was quoted 5K for total replacement. Glad I didn't waste my time with VWOA.

Wow. Good to know. And have to say, that's pretty lame of VW.

I just came back from a mechanic who confirmed that the problems I've been having with reversing on my 2002 Jetta GLS are caused by a problem transmission. Apparently, VW used to have a 10 yr, 100000 mile warranty on powertrain but reduced the warranty after they had to keep replacing transmissions. My car only has 46000 miles on it !!
