Nathan Massey shared an idea in Barclays on December 16, 2009 10:55:
Barclays should make online statements more informative and real-time.One thing i've never understood about bank statements is why the information about each payment you make is so small. Wouldn't it be good if when looking at your online bank statement, you could click on individual payments to see more details about it?
For example, at the moment, all you have now on your statement is something similar to this,
15/12/2009 Card Purchase -£451.32
JOHN LEWIS
REF 345 1342212323312 BCC
Now that isn't very informative at all.
Imagine if you could click on the name of the store where you made your purchase, and up popped at Google Map with all the stores details (location, opening hours etc).
What if you clicked on the amount you paid and you were shown a virtual receipt from the store showing what individual items you've bought (which would be really useful if you need to claim back things like petrol on expenses).
Having this extra information would really help when using services like Mint.com that analyse your spending habits to save you money.
This is the kind of thing I would like to see.
15/12/2009 18:23 Card Purchase
John Lewis Sheffield, Barkers Pool, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S1 1EP
Playstation 3 Console £249.99
UPC: 90123441231
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare £29.99
UPC: 01223112234
Playstation 3 Dual Shock Controller £24.99
UPC: 23432355543
TOTAL: £304.97
Also, why does it take a few DAYS for new purchases to appear on my online statement? It's almost 2010, this sort of thing should happen instantly in real-time!

Nathan Massey shared an idea in British Sky Broadcasting on December 15, 2009 15:58:
Sky should let you use Sky Player on more than 1 Xbox 360.I find it really annoying that Sky only let you use their Sky Player service on just 1 Xbox 360. We have two 360's at home, and it would be great to have the service on both consoles.

Nathan Massey shared an idea in PC World UK on December 08, 2009 16:16:
PC World should stop selling software on CD's, and instead print a URL and Product Key on the customer receipt.I think it would be a good idea if PC World stopped selling software as a 'boxed product' in it's stores, and instead had a system that printed download URL's and license/product keys on the customer's receipt.
It would work a lot like how a iTunes Gift Card works.
It would basically work like this,
1. A customer comes into PC World wanting to buy a particular bit of software.
2. Over on the software section, there isn't a bunch of CD's on the shelf, but rather DVD-box sized pieces of cardboard, that have the software's cover on the front, and some info about it on the back (much like a regular DVD box), and a barcode.
3. The customer takes the piece of cardboard to the till, where it is scanned in, and when the receipt is printed out (or emailed to the customer) the customer would see something like below,
Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 (289562) £99.95
Download at: microsoft.com/uk/office/download
Product Key: FHTT67-643566-FSZBYU-QQERFF
Symantec Norton 360 (305257) £59.95
Download at symantec.com/norton/download
Product Key: REWSD-122AA-FDGHH-QQ33FF
4. When the customer gets home they simply use the information on the receipt to download and install the software on their computer.
This would save PC World the cost of large amounts of shelving to merchandise software, as the pieces of cardboard could be merchandised on pegs instead (which are cheaper).
It would also save the manufacturers of those software titles in pressing discs and boxing them up, and PC World in shipping the software out to stores (and replenishing that stock every week).
PC World would only have to send out maybe 100 DVD-sized pieces of cardboard for each title, and as these are not given out to customers when they buy, can be reused after each sale.
I understand the PC World currently sell a 'netbook' edition of some titles like Norton 360, but these still require the boxed product to be made and resupplied to stores each time a store runs out of stock. The solution i've suggested means that the product is supplied electronically, so every store in the country will never run out of stock.
For customer who don't have Internet access, or aren't comfortable downloading software on their own, PC World could offer a service through The Tech Guys to download the software onto a USB stick or CD/DVD for a additional fee (plus the cost of the media), or the customer could bring in their computer and have the software installed directly by a technician.
Nathan Massey reported a problem in Apple on December 08, 2009 00:44:
Apple should remove the 'password' field from the authentication window in OS X if the user doesn't have one on their account. One thing that I found with new users of OS X is that they almost universally come across the same problem when trying to install a new application on their Mac for the first time.
They'll run a installer and get a little pop-up box asking them to authenticate their action with a admin username and password. The username is pre-filled, but the password field isn't (for obvious reasons). The problem here is that if the user hasn't set up a password on their account during the machines initial setup, they don't realise you don't put anything in the password field, you just hit OK to continue.
It would be good if the authentication pop-up box worked like the pop-up box for connecting to a AirPort network, where if no WEP/WPA key is required, the password field doesn't show up.
Making this change would be a big usability improvement for users new to OS X.
Nathan Massey shared an idea in Domino's Pizza on November 28, 2009 21:32:
Dominos iPhone app should ask to post your order to Facebook and Twitter. It would be cool if when ordering from Dominos using the mobile iPhone web app (or the website) if your order could be posted to your Facebook profile or tweeted out on Twitter.
For example, on Facebook you would have a item added to your feed that says,
"Nathan just ordered a Pepperoni Supreme from Dominos!"
You would also have a picture of the pizza along with the post, along with a description of what the pizza has on it. You could also include a link back to dominos.co.uk for that specific pizza.
On Twitter, you could have a similar sort of thing,
"Ordered a Pepperoni Supreme from Dominos." #dominos
Nathan Massey gave praise in Domino's Pizza on November 28, 2009 21:19:
Great customer experience ordering using iPhone web app!I've just used the iPhone web app at dominos.co.uk to order my first pizza from Dominos, and i've got to say, i'm blown away. The web app is brilliant, really well designed and made it super easy to find my local store, create my order and pay using my debit card.
It threw up a couple of temporary errors (searching for my local store the first time, trying to find my address and adding stuff to the basket) but these were fixed by just going back one step and trying again. I pretty sure a lot of these errors were a result of the use of a web app rather than a dedicated app through the App Store, so it might be worth making a dedicated application.
Apart from that, the only other thing that didn't go perfectly was that on my order confirmation email (from "thekitchen@dominos.co.uk", nice touch!) was it said
"NEW! Track the status of your order as it is prepared. ##pizzaTrackingId##"
So i'm guessing something went wrong somewhere as I didn't get a tracking number, just the placeholder variable for it.
Pizza itself arrived in about 20 minutes, and even came with a free garlic sauce to dip your crusts into!
Won't be ordering again as it was way too expensive (£12.99 for a 11.5" Pepperoni, only £6.99 for a 12" Pepperoni at another local independent pizza shop) but just wanted to say what a good experience the ordering process was. Lower your prices Dominos and i'll definitely order again!
Nathan Massey shared an idea in West Yorkshire Police on November 24, 2009 11:43:
Every NPT in West Yorkshire should have their own Twitter account.I was reading this article on the BBC News website (Police open up to social media) and went to look if my local NPT had a Twitter account too. They don't.
I think the idea of each NPT having a account on Twitter is great, as it would help to keep the public informed as to what the Police are doing in their local area.
There are a couple of NPT's in West Yorkshire that already have Twitter accounts, but it would be good to see all of them have one.

A comment on the problem "The beatcrime.info website is a good idea, but a awful implementation." in West Yorkshire Police:
Wow! The new website is a BIG improvement on the old one. Much more usable, a much better experience all round.
It still needs some work in some parts though. For example, on crimespotting.org, you can click on each individual crime on the map and see details like the time and date it happened, and a crime number.
Providing these extra details might be useful in helping the Police generate additional leads for more information (e.g. someone sees on beatcrime that a burglary happened on their street a few days ago, and they remember seeing someone walking around the area at that time looking suspicious. They could then leave a comment on that incident providing the Police with more information.)
There also needs to be a way of looking at past data on the map. At the moment I can only look at data for last month (October), as there doesn't seem to be a option to change the timeframe for the data plotted on the map. This is something where crimespotting.org also has a edge on beatcrime.info. On crimespotting.org, you can plot crimes on the map from the past week, past month and specific months (going all the way back to 2007).
Lastly, it would be good if you could switch to using OpenStreetMaps instead of Bing/Microsoft maps. – Nathan Massey, on November 24, 2009 11:19
Nathan Massey shared an idea in PC World UK on November 23, 2009 00:00:
PC World should offer 'Tech Guy' service on Collect@Store reservations. It would be quite handy if PC World allowed you to buy services from the Tech Guys when you reserve items to collect in store.
For example, if you were reserving a laptop to collect, but you knew you wanted it's memory upgraded to something bigger, you should be able to click a check box for a 'memory upgrade', then when you go to collect your new laptop in-store, the Tech Guys will have already done the upgrade for you, saving you a additional trip to the store (you would usually reserve the laptop, then ask for the upgrade, go home, and come back when it's done).
You could offer other services like in-store setup (e.g. you reserve a laptop with Norton and Office, and they would be installed onto the laptop for you ready to go).
With this system you would pay for everything online before coming in-store as you could have people reserving stuff that has had upgrades/setups then don't come to collect it.
Nathan Massey shared an idea in PC World UK on November 22, 2009 23:51:
PC World should offer 'personal shopping' as part of it's Collect@Store service. It would be good if when reserving items online for collection at a PC World store, you had the option of also reserving a 'personal shopping' session at the store.
Basically, how this would work is that you would book a specific time slot on the website to come into the store to collect your product (e.g. 5:00pm - 6:00pm) and you would be met in-store by an advisor who will spend some time with you to make sure you've got all the right things you need, and demonstrate the products you've chosen.
Nathan Massey replied on November 17, 2009 14:01 to the idea "Barclays should make a iPhone app." in Barclays:
NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank now all have a iPhone app through their partnership with Monitise Group Ltd.
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/artist/mon...
Although I would like a Barclays app ASAP, I would prefer Barclays to spend the time developing their own app, as the quality of the app's from NatWest et al look pretty poor.
The new Barclays website is really well designed and polished. Hopefully their iPhone app will have the same amount of effort put into it.

Nathan Massey shared an idea in Play.com on November 03, 2009 11:50:
Play.com should add options to sort category and search results by price, name etc.One thing that really bugs me about Play.com is that you can't sort search or category results by price or name, you just get one big list in sections of 20 products each.
Nathan Massey shared an idea in Autodesk on November 03, 2009 10:43:

It would make my life a million times easier if Autodesk were to develop a Mac version of AutoCAD.
