A comment on the question "Presentation mode..." in Balsamiq:
Yes, single option to toggle all of those effects/helpers on and off - not individual controls. – Nathanael Boehm, on May 05, 2009 21:30

I don't like the BAP ... the changing orientation of the cursor is really clunky and jittery, as is the hand cursor. Don't know why it's not smooth. If the arrow was just a single orientation and was smoother and if the hand only displayed when over a link (there seems to be a region around a link where it no longer displays the destination link but still has a hand) I'd be happier.
Another suggestion is that instead of arrows you use element highlights ... so hovering over an element highlights it in blue glow outline. The person navigating will still need a cursor of sorts to get around the screen but not the BAP. Just an idea ...

Ah nice one - that certainly makes it easier to read the graph, but what I was suggesting was more like this:

This is just using variable red graphics and fixed-size green so the totals don't really make sense; if you were to look at this sort of overall summary reporting then that'd need to be something to figure out ... but hopefully you can see what I'm getting at. Just some way of at a quick glance see how I'm doing against my goals, identifying problem days, activities where I need to revise my goals etc.
Nathanael Boehm shared an idea in Snooty Monkey on January 02, 2009 23:29:
Summary reporting, data vizHi, I like the idea of BT tho I don't know if I'd get in the habit of updating it everyday - I'd like to think so. Perhaps if there were mechanisms in place to help remind me to update (ie an email "Hi, doesn't look like you've done ANYTHING today - you might want to login and update") - but the main idea I had was about access to summary information. I noticed the graphs that appear when you hover over time spent data on the right but it's still pretty hard to make sense of it, especially when you have goals with excluded days. It's nice - but still doesn't give me a sense of how well I'm doing against goals.
Perhaps a Summary page with activities plotted against days with a default 2-week history and then date range parameters to change it with some graphical device used to convey per-day achievements against goal and then overall over the period of time displayed.
So if I didn't do anything against an activity on a day where I had a >2 hour goal set that might be a big red dot. If I got 1.5 hours done then maybe a small red dot. If I achieved a goal, then a green dot. If I had >30 min exercise goal and ended up doing 2 hours might be a big green dot.
Just an easy way of quickly determining my progress against my goals per day and over time.
