So, there are two places where you can create/display a subscription widget:
1. From within the event page itself. Edit the event page and click Content >> Edit Remove Widgets >> Subscribe to contact list
2. Or, you can get an embeddable widget. Click on the calendar title, and click Put a Subscription Form on your website. Here you can copy and paste code.

Note: Neither of these options allow you to tag the user. This is a future feature enhancement.

Same here -- when you add html to the description in the box provided on the Edit Event page, it shows up correctly when you're composing -- when you save it, though, only a part of the code is retained and just shows up in the description as useless text. My guess is Navigator was trying to add a mailing list widget -- I tried the same thing myself since the subscribe function does not take tags (I wrote a separate entry about this here) or show in your contacts list which event it comes from if you have more than one event -- you don't know which event people want updates on before confirming attendance -- the comments function is a little awkward since they have to leave a comment when all they want is to join the list and their info is displayed publicly, which they may not want.

Do you have an example of the issue? What do you mean by "i tried using the widget, but it just throws out the other html on the page."
