A comment on the question "Does the new iTunes import/export feature imports/exports play counts and ratings?" in Songbird:
I don't see/understand why would songbird scrobble anything if only the playcounts are updated at import. I mean, when I sync my iPod with Songbird, I believe the playcounts sync up right? But nothing is submitted to last.fm if I played some songs on the iPod and then synced with SongBird. As far as I can tell, this never happened, why would it happen syncing the with iTunes? – Nazgulled, on July 09, 2009 18:46

Actually, it doesn't work exactly as I explained above...
If I rescan metadata on Album A, followed by Album B and then back to Album A, it won't work. It seems that after rescanning metadata for some album, I can only do it again for that same album after a couple of minutes, otherwise the albumart won't appear.
Why is this happening? Why don't the files update themselves and why can't I select all the files and click "rescan metadata" for all of them?
I've added too many albums to select and rescan each song individually, specially when I have to wait and can't do it immediately one after the other...

Metadata and albumart not updating correctly (watch folders)Today I got a few new albums and as usual, I prefer to download the artwork manually and place them as folder.jpg in each album folder.
I added all the new albums into the "Music" folder, this folder is the watched folder.
However, for some strange reason, some files metadata must be screwed. I have a smart playlist that lists the most recent added songs and I can see that all files for the new albums are there, however, only some of them display albumart. Another thing is that theses albums were inside a folder called "soundtracks" and when I filter the whole library by "soundtracks" it only shows the same songs as before, the ones that have albumart.
Another strange thing is that I can right-click a track and select "rescan metadata" and the albumart shows up but this will only work one track at a time and I must switch to a different album for each song.
Example:
Album A / Track 1 - rescan metadata: success
Album A / Track 2 - rescan metadata: fail
Album B / Track 1 - rescan metadata: success
Album A / Track 2 - rescan metadata: success
Album C / Track 1 - rescan metadata: success
Album C / Track 5 - rescan metadata: fail
Album C / Track 8 - rescan metadata: fail
Album B / Track 3 - rescan metadata: success
Album C / Track 8 - rescan metadata: success
Album B / Track 2 - rescan metadata: success
Album C / Track 5 - rescan metadata: success
You get the picture...
This is strange and it sucks that the metadata is not updating itself correctly...

No worries, I got it the first time ;) – Nazgulled, on June 30, 2009 22:22

Too bad... Either way, I just tried it to use this feature but neither the import/export was working. Anyway, if it doesn't export/import playcounts and ratings, I have no use for such a feature. Thanks. – Nazgulled, on June 30, 2009 22:21

Thank you.
In the meantime, I'm modifying the SQLite database directly by search and replace the file locations, this does the trick for now, but of course, it's a pain in the ass and error prone to do it like this. I just have to be extra careful. – Nazgulled, on June 30, 2009 22:18

Does the new iTunes import/export feature imports/exports play counts and ratings?Yes or no?
If no, is there a way around it?

How do I reorganize my music's location without losing play counts and ratings?I'm trying to reorganize my music folders but I'm not able to without losing all my ratings and play counts.
I closed Songbird, moved a few folders to the new location (they are still inside the "Music" watched folder) and restarted Songbird. Songbird automatically started to update the files location and I thought this would do the trick...
However, I lost all my song ratings and play counts and the artwork also stopped appearing.
Lucky for me, I backed up the whole database and restored it... But I still need to reorganize my music's folders without losing all this data.
How can I do it?
