A comment on the idea "Be able to do global find and replace on text" in Balsamiq:
That's totally fair enough.
Like I said, I can workaround it at the moment, so feel free to priority as such. – Mark Mandel, on August 05, 2009 20:56
A comment on the idea "Be able to do global find and replace on text" in Balsamiq:
For example - if I'm building a mockup, and we are using the term 'User', which ends up being a label all over the mockup. 3 weeks in, we decide to change from 'User' to 'Member', now I have to go through a stack of mockups and manually replace the word 'User', which may be used 4/5 times on a mockup, to 'Member'.
I can do this with a text editor, so there is a workaround, but to have Edit > Find and Edit > Replace in the menu, I don't think would be a big ask given the XML structure. – Mark Mandel, on July 26, 2009 23:59

Be able to do global find and replace on textI was editing a mockup today where I had to go through a huge number of text fields to change a term we were using on the site.
It would be great to have Find and Replace for text in Balsamiq, which would make these sorts of changes really, really simple!
I ended up doing it by editing the XML in the .bmml file directly, but it would be pretty useful if this sort of functionality was built in directly to Mockups.

Attempting to Save a new Mockup fails, and subsequent Open and Save attempts also fail (Linux)This is something I can reproduce each and every time.
I'm running Balsamic Mockups:
Version: 1.5.12 - 12/28/2008 01:58 (Air)
Flash Player Version: LNX 10,0,12,36
On Ubuntu Intrepid.
1. I Open an existing mockup.
2. This Opens and displays fine.
3. I Clone this mockup
4. I then attempt to save the clone
5. The Save dialog pops up, and I type in my mockup name 'fail.bmml'
6. I click 'okay'.
7. The file is then saved as '.bmml', and in the title bar reads 'file:///.bmml'
8. From now on, if I try and save a new mockup, or open a mockup, nothing happens, i.e. there is no file dialog, or anything.
The workaround I have for now:
To get 'open' working again, go to ~/.appdata/ and delete the Balsamic folder.
To create a new mockup, copy the file from an old one, and then open it. Regular save seems to be fine, just not Saving a new item.

I think you miss my point.
If the response from the Twhirl guys had been a 'ack! we screwed up, sorry! you're just going to have to wait till 1.5 comes out on Linux', then that's fine, everyone makes mistakes. I understand Twitter makes random changes to their API, and how painful that must be.
But from what @Thomas Knoll is saying, is that they * deliberately * decided not to way in the consequences what they were doing. I'm sure you can understand that viewpoint being rather upsetting.
Maybe I was wrong in the way I interpreted it, but I haven't heard anything from Thomas to the contrary. – Mark Mandel, on December 12, 2008 07:41
A comment on the problem "Twhirl 0.8.7 doesn't work on Ubuntu 8.04" in Seesmic:
So you're trying to tell me is that the Twhirl team made a decision like changing the version of the required underlying runtime, which is a pretty big decision, very quickly, with no discussion of the impact on the Twhirl user community.. ? That doesn't give me much confidence in the team, I'm sorry to say.
You can't possibly tell me that AIR 1.5 was required to fix the twitter api issue, because, quite frankly, if that were true, then tweetdeck wouldn't work for me right now.
To say '...we didn't have time to check for compatibility on linux...' also leaves me a little worried. It seems like you are saying the Twhirl team basically just decided 'oh.. this whole section our user base... we don't really need to worry about them, they're not important. If it works great, but if it doesn't, then they can use another product, who cares'. That makes me feel like a <sarcasm>real valued member of your product community.</sarcasm>.
I really like the Twhirl product, I and I still do, I think its the best twitter client out there, but the way you guys are managing your end users right now is atrocious. – Mark Mandel, on December 12, 2008 04:19

Thomas, are you saying to re-download 0.8.6? Because I can't login with 0.8.6 right now due to twitter API changes... so how do we get around that issue? – Mark Mandel, on December 11, 2008 22:07

Cool, as long as you are aware of the problem.
If you need beta testers for anything Linux related, feel free to email me: my first name . my last name @ gmail.com (didn't want to write my actual email), more than happy to help out. – Mark Mandel, on December 06, 2008 21:22

Drag and drop of items from the UI menu does not work in LinuxNot sure if this is related to the AIR beta in Linux or not, but I cannot drag and drop items from the UI menu, to add them to my mockup.
Double clicking works fine, but trying to drag and drop just refuses to work.
This is on Ubuntu 8.10
Version 1.1.91, 10/29/2008 (AIR)
Flash: LNX 10,0,0,551
Otherwise, it all look good!
