I think this is one of those areas that don't need to be reinvented. Everyone expects that icon to report unread count. – Nick T, on February 02, 2009 16:45-

Yes, along with the Safari RSS feed button generating a new email message instead of a feed. – Nick T, on January 30, 2009 15:18

I have tried, but the links I get from the sites don't work. Plus, the opening a new message when trying to add a feed (with Postbox set as a default feed reader) is a major bug. – Nick T, on January 29, 2009 18:36

I agree with your assessment. I think what some of us "conversationalists" want is the ability to (through a button in the header) mark the whole thread as viewed and to be able to reply-to people directly from the threaded summary view (right now it just replies to the last person in the thread). I do believe there is already a keyed shortcut for marking the whole thread as viewed ('R'), which, admittedly, as a Mac user, I should learn to use.

Then add yourself as having this problem so that Postbox pays more attention to it – Nick T, on January 28, 2009 23:33

@jeff253 - you misunderstood me, I meant more mail software options is better because it drives quality up as a differentiator. E.g. Mail.app, Thunderbird, Postbox, etc. – Nick T, on January 28, 2009 20:46
Nick T shared an idea in Postbox, Inc. on January 28, 2009 20:42:
Reply-To Button in Threaded-Message HeaderOne of the tough parts about working with the threaded view right now is that if there are multiple people (>2) in the thread, then the "Reply" button simply chooses the last person who responded to a thread. If you want to reply to anyone else in a thread, you need to expand the summary view, select the email from them, and then hit reply. However, any easy fix would to be to put a "Reply" button in the specific message header in the summary view so you could just respond directly. I have attached a picture to show where I think the button would work best ... put it right next to the "Open Message" button.
Nick T reported a problem in Postbox, Inc. on January 28, 2009 20:38:
Thread Summary View Does Not Auto-Update when New Message ArrivesI have noticed that when viewing a thread summary (i.e. where the little triangle is not expanded) and a new email comes in that belongs in that thread, the thread is updated to show that there is an unread message, and the inbox shows a new message, but the thread is not updated. Thus, the only way to view the new message in the thread summary (i.e. not expanded view) is to click away from that email thread and to return. Then the newest message in the thread will shop up at the top of the summary.

@jeff235 - Nice ... though I still see the utility in something like Postbox with a few more features. Bottom line, more options are always better for consumers. – Nick T, on January 28, 2009 16:52
