Nick set one of Nick's replies as an official response to "New E-mail Verification on Ning - Branded?" in Ning
Nick replied on September 30, 2009 22:24 to the question "New E-mail Verification on Ning - Branded?" in Ning:
Hi all,
2 different issues are being raised here, I want to address them both separately:
1) There have been a few hitches in the new email verification system.
I know that's frustrating, and our engineering team has worked rapidly to fix any and all issues around it. For the latest updates check the Ning Status Blog and our release post on the Ning Blog. At this point, the expectation is that you and your members should be able to verify without any trouble. If that's not the case for you, please let us know in the Ning Help Center.
2) Addressing the idea that email verification is a Ning-branded experience.
We've always helped out anyone with a Ning ID who is having trouble signing up or in. The Advocacy team here at Ning has always done this, and there has been a link to the Ning Help Center from the "Problems Signing Up?" page for a long time. For those reasons, I don't think the roll-out of email verification really changes anything when it comes to our team's availability to your members and the visibility of the Ning Help Center. (Laura already made this point.)
That said, Alex I think you raise a great point here, which is taking a look at providing more ways for the Network Creator (and Administrators) to help people who can't sign up/in directly. It touches on a partnership in place today — we here at Ning want everyone to have a great sign-up/in experience on your Ning Network, and we want to know about and solve any problems with a Ning ID. Overwhelmingly, that doesn't conflict with NC interests — in fact, it's a huge bonus to know that a dedicated team is available to help members do everything from sign up to add a photo to manage settings. But it's a fair point that some Ning Networks are equipped — and interested in — providing 24x7 support to their members. To be honest, right now we don't have any plans to change the way we partner with NCs to provide help to members with their sign-up/in experience & their Ning ID. But I appreciate you starting the conversation about it here.
Thanks,
Nick

Hi all,
We do back up content on the Ning Platform and we provide content security in line with industry standard practices. But we can't offer a contractual guarantee or warranty — that's why we suggest you maintain copies of content you upload.
This disclaimer you're referring to is pretty much in every ToS:
Yahoo: "You agree that Yahoo! has no responsibility or liability for the
deletion or failure to store any messages and other communications or
other Content maintained or transmitted by the Yahoo! Services."
Facebook: WE TRY TO KEEP FACEBOOK UP, BUG-FREE, AND SAFE, BUT YOU USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. WE ARE PROVIDING FACEBOOK "AS IS" WITHOUT ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT FACEBOOK WILL BE SAFE OR SECURE.
We're happy to work with you on any specific questions around your Ning Network in the Help Center.
Thanks,
Nick

Hi all!
Ernie wrote up a nice tutorial for this here in the Developer Network:
http://developer.ning.com/notes/Creat...
Right now it's strictly a CSS hack — that means it's not guaranteed to work, it takes some CSS knowledge, and it might break without warning. Please keep all that in mind before proceeding!
Naturally we would love to build this into the product and give you even more flexibility in the Appearances page from the Manage tab. This is certainly on my wishlist and I'll let the team know it's on yours, too.
Thanks!
Nick
Phil's reply to "Has anyone else seen this code on their networks?" was just promoted to the most useful! Nick and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Hi Derek,
The script is only designed to fix a very specific positioning problem with the ads in the "ads box" so it has no impact on AdSense that appears anywhere else in the network. The "ad_block" referred to in the code snippet you posted signifies the "html code block of ads" rather than "blocking ads."
If we were doing something that caused AdSense to not render, then I can guarantee you that this would instantly be the most popular topic on GetSatisfaction.
There are a few reasons why you may not be seeing AdSense on your network:
- You have more than 3 adsense blocks in the page.
- Google doesn't have enough information about your network to fill all of your ad blocks; this might happen if your network is private and you only recently added the code.
- Google thinks that the page may violate its ToS due to content, so it's showing nothing or public service ads (this can depend on the preferences that you've set).
- You just added the ad block; Google takes up to 10 minutes before they display a new ad on a site.
- You've put in a place a restriction on the domains that an ad can appear on, and your Ning network isn't in that list.
If you have firebug installed in FF3.5, then you can use it to take a look at the underlying code where the ad is being injected. If you're seeing an iframe where the src points to Google or doubleclick, then Google is render a blank space for whatever reason. You could also ask someone else to check out your network on their computer and let you know if they see the ads or not.

Nick replied on August 17, 2009 18:36 to the question "Can I export the content of my Ning Network?" in Ning:
Hi Jim,
I think our team interpreted your note as a request to migrate content from one Ning Network to another. We're still working on an easy automated process to export your content — in the meantime, our team prioritizes requests from Network Creators who need a one-time export of their entire Ning Network so they can leave the Ning Platform. If we misunderstood, can you follow up with us in the Help Center?
As for your question about RSS for specific content, that's possible today. For example, the link you posted above has a little RSS button at the bottom of the page. If you click it, you can grab the RSS URL, which in your case is:
http://www.oceancity.net/video/video/...
You can then feed this RSS into another Ning Network or any other website. We'll be happy to help you out further with this if you drop us a note in the Ning Help Center.
Thanks,
Nick
