Good suggestions, Nick.
We've had a conversation about this topic over here as well. I'll point that conversation over to this one now since we're coming up with some interesting solutions here.

Hi Thor,
I think that would do the trick - something to show the message's position in the topic's history, but without showing the whole thing (especially if it's a long message).
Perhaps an anchor wouldn't be the best idea, as the viewer would have to scroll all the way back down to where they were if they clicked it to go back up to the best solution.
I reckon a dynamic show/hide function would work, provided the text described what it was hiding, and why.
Something like:
"This message has been hidden as it is the best solution. Click here to read the message anyway."
Forgive me if I'm being too descriptive here, I only signed up today so haven't quite figured everything out!

I agree with Nick that this could be improved. The situation is most glaring when the best answer is the only reply (or one of the only replies) on the topic. It's a bit tricky though, since a.) we want to surface the full answer at the top, b.) we don't want to lose the context of the response for those that want it, and c.) handling it differently when there's a small number of replies would add its own confusion. Perhaps there's a way to collapse or truncate the in-thread response, with a note that it was promoted as a top answer, but allow user to expand it in place if they prefer.

Hi Cameron,
I see what you mean, and I do agree that it does separate it from the original message.
However, I think from a viewer's perspective it's redundant - an example.
Would you consider removing the text and instead showing something like "click here for the original message", and then using Javascript to expand the original message?

Nick,
We've discussed this a few times in the office here, and gone back and forth a bit. In the end, we settled on using the different visual styling, including having the topic's background border extend around the "best solutions" and placing the avatar in a different place, as a way to distinguish these "repeated" responses from the rest of the conversation.
The point was to repeat them as an abstract of the conversation below, but also make sure that they were distinguished in such a way that they do not appear to be a bug with the site.

Best Solution DuplicationI've noticed that the company's best solution duplicates the same (original) message further down the conversation.
Would it be worth either removing the original message (if it's been set as the best solution), or removing the message text and providing an anchor link to the best solution (such as #best-solution)?
I feel that having both messages confuses things a bit, as I have seen a few topics where the official rep's first response is set as the best solution, which means that the original question is displayed, then the best solution, then the rep's response (that was set as the best solution).
I hope my explanation is clear enough!-

Image Dimensions TextIt might be worth adding some text next to the image upload fields specifying the maximum (or recommended) dimensions for uploaded images.
This would save people time adjusting their images to "look right".
