nickname replied on June 29, 2009 12:20 to the question "Wuala status website only works localy?" in Wuala:
you guys simply dont seem to understand what localhost means. localhost doesnt physically resemble a complete machine as such, but only means the localhost interface on ipv4. learn some basic knowledge before whining around about stuff. localhost is localhost. not the network and not meaning all the local network interfaces of that same machine.
localhost doesnt connect to the network, it doesnt give you network access at all. it only represents the 127/8 ip range all bound to the "localhost" name as described in some rfc. this doesnt make it visible (impossible) on any kind of network as every ipv4 node has its own localhost range addresses, meaning itself and nothing else.
my tone is as appropriate as your knowledge of ipv4 is :D
better try with some basic understanding of things you want to argue about next time.
localhost is also know as loopback, so even the name says it loops back to your very self, and never goes to any kind of network. its a virtual range of addresses that dont belong to a physical network, network interface card, physical network device or any such kind of things.
thats why you cannot access localhost "over" the network as it doesnt make any sense. what you might mean is the other local network addresses of any other locally used network interface devices that actually connect to other networks.

ofcourse only locally.... the gui screen unmistakably displays the address as 127.0.0.1:portnumber.... where is your problem of understanding that address.
its not that you can select, chose or change it in any way. its localhost. full stop.
127.x.y.z is all localhost on ipv4 notation, no discussions about that.

wuala is really on lowprofile for many months now. it seems that your company is suffering from the buyout or merger or whatever you wana call it.
hardly new releases, hardly any notable progress or exciting news. i am wondering why we should vote for you.
maybe i am just disappointed with the lack of pace and the whole slowdown or the taciturnity at wuala.
i dont see this whole project as optimistic as in the past nor am i any more excited about this in the way i have been.
severe disappointment.-

A comment on the question "Why has the minimum upload speed been set to 10 KB?" in Wuala:
then better ad a focus/change event to that edit box in that form, that when a user enters anything and leaves that inputbox the form autochecks the numbers and sets 10kbytes and actually displays this when the on-click/on-leave/on-change event occurs in that dialog box. still i am wondering why the current build of wuala performs badly on my limited internet connection with multiple nodes on my lan. maybe its also time for this idea of creating lan-to-lan awareness of wuala nodes participating on a single lan or internal networks, so that multiple wuala nodes would use the bandwidth more efficiently and also exchange chunks over the fast lan instead of acting all for themselves independently. this would also allow for a business use of wuala on corporate lans if one could define certain rules for master-wuala-nodes on the lans, which would be used by other wuala client nodes preferably over the direct internet connection for each and every client independently. thanks for explanation. – nickname, on June 10, 2009 15:53

this is bad. i have just recently discovered this stuff with minimum 10kbytes. i have two wuala nodes at some smaller "broadband" line which has only dual-isdn b channels (64kbit times two) in each direction. so two times 10kbytes is too much for such a line. this is sad,
why isnt this noted publicly anywhere in the releasenotes?
wuala is slowly but constantly moving towards the usual corporate evildoer companies. they used to be much more userfriendly and much more upfront and forthcoming in the past.
ever since caleido got bought out by the lacie folks they are even faster heading down this road.

wualas filesystem integration part on windows at least is from a thirdparty java component/dll. so as long as this thirdparty doesnt come up with a solution wuala cant do shit about it. unless they go for a completely different solution, buy from a different technology provider and so on.
microsoft is constant incompatibility. sucks to be a microsoft addict :p

how about some enhancements (because of shell character escape sequences) for the password. when you have special characters in your password, on un*x you have to add the backslash or other escape characters in front of your special character in your password to be able to log into wuala.
wualacmd could maybe handle the password in quotation marks instead, thus being more independent on escape characters of the un*x shells if i am not mistaken.-
