I was also trying to figure this out. iTunes is able to just have Artist/Album so Songbird should be too.

The options in iTunes are called:
‘Keep iTunes Music folder organised’
and
‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’
This is why I haven't ditched iTunes yet completely
