NikSmit asked a question in Twitter on December 16, 2008 14:08:
Missing data in search causing unnecessary api pollingI operate a site which has thousands of twitter users data on it. We get our twitter notifications from gnipcentral, and gnip's data comes from twitter search. When tweets aren't in twitter search results, they don't get to gnip, and hence not to us.
Problem is twitter's search is frequently missing data, as documented in getsatisfaction. The most recent user to notice it is briantercero (no results for months), so we've had to resort back to polling to make sure we get data.
Polling is inefficient. It hurts twitters servers, and wastes bandwidth and cpu for everyone.
This problem has been going on for months as far as I can see. (Although, to be fair, some users that were missing in search results previoiusly have eventually appreared. But the extent of the missing data is hard to guage from our side, so polling it has to be).
It would be really great to get confirmation that this is being looked at, and a timeline if possible.
Many thanks.

NikSmit reported a problem in Twitter on July 18, 2008 22:20:
Rate limiting on non-authenticated requestsHi.
I'm getting rate limited on the public API - calling http://twitter.com/statuses/user_time..., non-authenticated, I get
"Rate limit exceeded. Clients may not make more than 100 requests per hour.".
According to the documentation : "Rate limiting applies only to authenticated API requests; requests for the public timeline do not count."
Could you shed some light please?
Thanks.
