A comment on the problem "Unexpected behavior from compose window collapsible contacts sidebar" in Postbox, Inc.:
Scott -
When the classic view of the PB window is activated and I click on the sidebar in the view pane repeatedly, the sidebar there behaves as I would expect. The sidebar slides out from the right edge of the view pane border and when I close it, it collapses back into the right edge of the view pane border. It doesn't drag the right edge of the PB main window toward the left edge of the view pane sidebar when it closes and it doesn't push out the right edge of the PB main window when it closes. Maybe that illustrates my point better than simply trying to describe the behavior I expected from the sidebar in the compose window. Thanks. – ImGumbyDammit, on September 10, 2009 05:25

I'm running Windows XP SP3. The compose window is not maximized but I do have it stretched from the left edge to the right edge of my screen and pulled up to the top of my screen. I leave just enough space at the bottom of my screen so the taskbar meets the bottom of the window. This behavior, BTW, still occurs in 1.0. I also loaded a trial version of 1.0 on my notebook, which runs Vista, and I can reproduce the same behavior with the sidebar. I'll resize the compose window to see if that doesn't change the sidebar's behavior.

I just tried opening and closing the sidebar while leaving about an inch of screen space between the compose window and the left and right edges of the screen. The sidebar exhibits the same behavior. It pushes the right edge of the compose window toward the right edge of the screen. When I close the sidebar, the right edge of the window is drawn to where the left-most edge of the sidebar was. If I leave less space between the right edge of the compose window and the right edge of the monitor, when I open the sidebar, the right edge of the compose window is pushed off-screen and I need to drag the window to the left so the right edge is visible once again. Does that make sense? – ImGumbyDammit, on September 10, 2009 04:46

Interesting perspective on group functionality. Come to think of it, I don't know if any e-mail program I've used lets you pick individual addresses out of a group. It's probably something I never tried. However, when I had a "joke" group, when there were particular people I knew wouldn't appreciate a particular joke, I'd delete their names from the list of addresses that appeared in the "to" fields. Being able to select a subset of group members from the contact sidebar in the compose window would definitely be a very convenient feature and one that I'd use often. I also like the idea of being able to access the address book directly from the compose window, too, if for nothing else than added convenience.
I don't know if the development team picks up feature requests from comments in the "praise channel". Did you add your ideas to the "ideas channel"? It might make the difference between them being noticed or overlooked. – ImGumbyDammit, on September 07, 2009 20:50

Both, actually. Very slick. I did find an unexpected behavior, though, with the sidebar. It acts the same way in the compose window no matter how it's invoked. I submitted a red triangle on it. Found something else, too, related to the sidebar. It earns another red triangle. – ImGumbyDammit, on September 05, 2009 23:27

Unexpected behavior from compose window collapsible contacts sidebarHi Everyone -
I'm lovin' the program more than ever! Although I think the b16 contact sidebar functionality in the compose window is great, there's a slight issue when the sidebar closes. When it collapses, it doesn't collapse back toward the right window border from where it opened. Rather, the window border collapses into the sidebar and stops at the border of the message composition area (or the leftmost edge of the contacts sidebar); I lose about 20% - 25% of my composition area. I have to re-size the window manually to get that lost composition area back again. If I don't re-size the window manually after collapsing the sidebar, when I display the sidebar again, the sidebar opens by appearing to push the composition window border back to the edge of my monitor.
To sum it up, the sidebar opens fine initially. The issues arise upon subsequently opening and closing it. The window border should remain fixed and the sidebar should move, not vice versa. Thanks again!-

Fantastic address access from composeScott et. al.:
I might be wrong, but I think you changed the method of accessing contacts when composing an e-mail in b16. I think it's great. If you haven't changed it, then just consider this long overdue praise from me.
I think it's phenomenal that all of us are able to have direct interaction with the founder AND lead engineer. I didn't realize who Scott was until I read the "About" page. Keep up the great work with the product. I have no regrets about investing in this product. I know it will only get better.

Scott, does your answer mean that you can point Postbox to a Thunderbird mail store as long as you don't plan to access that store with Thunderbird again? Also, if one can point Postbox to another mail store, will Postbox modify the existing mail store (if it needs to) or must the program import e-mails in order to perform its modifications?
Thanks.

Add Postbox New Mail Indicator Similar to Thunderbird'sPostbox currently has no method to indicate new email. It indicates unread mail but not new email. Unread email does not equate to new email; sometime it takes awhile to get to unread emails if they're not important.
I'd like to see folder-level - including search folders - new-mail indicators a la Thunderbird. I often have unread items in many folders, including search folders. Although all folders remain highlighted to indicate unread mail, I have to physically check every folder to determine if any new mail arrived in any of those folders.

A comment on the problem "Visual new e-mail indicator missing from Beta14" in Postbox, Inc.:
You never showed an indicator like Thunderbird's little orange star next to new e-mails and next to the folders in the folder tree that hold the new e-mails? If not, then I'd like to suggest that feature be added. It really helps me manage my e-mails because I sort them into folders according to the x-classification header my Bayesian filter inserts into each e-mail. If I can't see which folder contains new e-mails, I have to check them all manually and that's just not feasible for me since I have a lot of folders and search folders.. – Nosmo King, on July 29, 2009 04:59

Visual new e-mail indicator missing from Beta14The new e-mail indicator that should appear in the e-mail folder tree and next to each new e-mails in the folder content listing no longer does. I searched for options to enable their display but didn't see any. I receive over 100 e-mails daily so I can't rely on only the fact that a folder is bolded as I may have not gotten to all e-mails in a given folder. Plus, my Bayesian e-mail filter my not always classify my e-mail properly so it can end up in the wrong folder.
Thanks.
