OK, thanx :) It actually makes more sense to assign the contacts by default to the "public" persona then.
Let me recapitulate what I think would be a good contact flow:
- Import contacts from other services
- Explain that those contacts are not visible to anyone, and can only see the public persona until they're logged in (and if they have been assigned another persona).
- contacts are assigned to the "public" persona and at least tagged with an "imported" tag so they're easily found
- when one adds a .mp contact, some kind of a message that prompts for a merge.
I think that covers it.

notafish reported a problem in chi.mp on January 28, 2009 16:08:
icons disappear when feed is empty in activity streamI think this is a bug. When I go to someone's .mp page and look at their activity stream, I get a few icons representing the service they feed into their activity stream. If I click on one or the other, I can display the feed from that service. However, if the feed is empty, the little icons disappear. See for example http://avataryt.mp/, click on facebook stream. This isn't practical because you then have to hit the browser's back button to get the other icons again.

OK so basically, when I import Bob & Alice, they are hidden (just in my contact manager/address book/whatever). At this stage, assigning them to a persona is irrelevant, if they don't have a chi.mp account. Right?
Which prompts the remark:
Maybe contacts imported from other networks should be assigned to a fake "persona" such as "pending" or "hidden" or "imported" or "hiho" or whatever, so that contact management is easier afterwards. Only when I merge a "hidden/imported" contact with a .mp contact will I then have to choose which persona they're allowed to see.
I think assigning them to "public" by default is kind of weird, because it gives the false impression that when I change that dropdown, something will change for them. But that's not the case, since they won't be able to see my other personas unless they're logged in (or I haven't understood anything and must go back to school).-

notafish asked a question in chi.mp on January 26, 2009 23:33:
Contacts: walkthrough about how the different settings work?I am confused about how the contact process works and which contacts are "chi.mp" contacts or "overall" contacts or what.
So let's see if I understand :
- I import Bob & Alice from my Twitter friends
- Bob & Alice become "contacts" in my address book on notafish.mp
- That's where I lose track. :/
*Do Bob & Alice know I've added them as a contact on notafish.mp?
*Bob & Alice are listed as "public" by default, which I think might not be the best option (see other thread on the subject), but what does that mean exactly?
>>Can Bob and Alice, when they log in into their .mp domain, see my profile on the setting I have chosen for them?
>>Does it only mean that Bob & Alice appear on the list of my contacts when people visit notafish.mp?
I'm not sure I'm very clear :D, but then I am confused.
In short, what is the exact implication of importing contacts and setting public/private/professional etc.?
Thanks in advance!

identi.ca and laconi.ca supportIt would be great if you added identi.ca (and laconi.ca) support.

Hi. So if I choose to buy the .mp domain and direct it to my own dns, what becomes of my chi.mp account? Thx. – notafish, on January 26, 2009 22:40

Sorry ILS. Removing old email addresses or email addresses I don't want you or anyone else to use should be a minimum feature. Come on, even Facebook allows you to delete your account! – notafish, on October 30, 2008 19:30

Password should not be in clear in the "I have forgotten my password" email. If we're going to be certifying and working on being secure, sending the password when forgotten in clear in an email is certainly not the right way to do this.
I would suggest a "reset password" link that brings you back to myID.is and asks you to reset your password.

Why are shortened urls converted into local cached urls?Twhirl version 0.8.4 on Linux (Kubuntu Gutsy).
All the urls are converted into local urls starting with file:// which prevents browsing from the linked page.
