noweyesee asked a question in Google Reader on January 06, 2009 14:36:
On Max OS X both Leopard and Tiger, I can't get Reader to work OfflineHere's what happens: I go offline and it loads 2000 items in Firefox. This works perfectly as long as the browser remains open. If I close the browser and turn off wifi, bringing up the browser again does not work. It says it can't load the page just as it would for any site when Internet is disconnected. Maybe I am missing a URL? Or does the browser have to remain open?
I have read news on the train for example, but only if I leave the Mac in sleep mode with Firefox open. Otherwise, it will not show the page. On my Tiger Macbook, it shows the page for a quick second, then goes to the message about not being to find it.
I've looked over Googles forums and help but ironicaly, I don't find searching Google very effective.

Account now unavailableI have accounts with a brand name I have used for years. I'm pretty sure I created a gmail account in the first wave a beta invites, but gmail says the name doesn't exist. If I try to create an account, it says the name isn't available. I believe the account was disabled by accident. I have exhausted the few avenues of communication with gmail.

I'd like to see write in fieldsI would suggest a simple write in with say up to five short text fields so that a question of the form:
Name three people who blah blah...
text1 (16-32 chars)
text2 (16-32 chars)
etc

It's important to get statistics. You should add some basic listening stats as soon as possible. If the total number is embarrassingly low, show a percentile of the total clicks (listens/views).
It's important to provide some idea of interest in one's stream(s), in case it becomes obvious that no one is interested in a particular subject area.
Naturally, the more extensive the stats, the better. One simple solution would be to allow insertion of a Google Analystics code. That puts the burden on Google :)
Not sure it would provide the actual click ratio for the media object, though.
A comment on the question "Twitterfeed as spam engine" in twitterfeed:
Mario, good work, thanks! THe real problem is laconica's youth so the local tools aren't available. Your action fixed the problem and I'm sure everyone but the spammer is happy.
wrt to my comment about source, I meant *who* was posting. Was it Engadget in which case someone there is a ****. It could be anyone posting their feed. That was what I meant by source. Suppose I wanted to tarnish Engadget (or twitterfeed). I could do a lot of damage and the public would never know. Perhaps a recourse (abuse) channel is needed with an inbox for each member on twitterfeed. Too much work, I know but you see the problem I think. – noweyesee, on October 25, 2008 07:41

mario, I think most would agree with you 100%. I'm curious though about the source. In this case, it doesn't seem to go to a blog but mostly to engadget. It may come up someday that the source of posts needs to be found, i.e, what feed is being submitted TO twitterfeed. Doesn't that make some sense? Maybe a flyover showing the feed URL? – noweyesee, on October 23, 2008 16:33

and by the way, it isn't the posting, it's the manner and frequency that is provoking people IMO – noweyesee, on October 23, 2008 16:11

hey mario, I wonder if accountability means making the source visible? It appears this user is posting to twitter via twitterfeed. This must all be coming from a blog? What is this original source? Maybe someone could then communicate with them? – noweyesee, on October 23, 2008 16:09

This is a clear case of abuse. It's irritating a lot of people and it reflects poorly on Twitterfeed, which by the way I just donated to a few days ago. – noweyesee, on October 23, 2008 15:15

Making it easier to follow TV shows on iTunesI like to buy TV shows by the show, not by season passes. It seems like a no-brainer that there would be a way to return to a season of a particular show and while I'm add it, in Standard Definition, not HD by default. Every time I buy a TV show, I have to click about 5 times to get to the seaon, then say I don't want HD, then hit the actual choice. An alternative would be a subscription like thing that worked like season passes (an email alert) but without buying the season.
A comment on the question "Involuntary language change of youtube account" in YouTube:
Phil, it's great that someone cares enough to have a discussion about it. In my own developments, I use a weighted system to detect language and in that system the browser setting has a greater weight than the geoIP and the domain name. Again, this is why browser language settings exist.
But regargless of the number of users/visitors, I just went back and had a heck of a time finding and setting the language without specifically remembering the fact that you click on the language. Further, it's also irritating that it seems to default to France AND français. So I have to click international or US and change the lmanguage.
Anyway, sure only a few people are affected by this but it's nice to see someone cares.

A comment on the question "Involuntary language change of youtube account" in YouTube:
As an expat living in Europe I can tell you it's a needless irritation to have to muck about trying to "fix" bad language detection. The language settings in browsers are there for that and any developer should be able to understand this. – noweyesee, on October 07, 2008 06:47
