I have a similar problem. I have yet to even try the app! Here's what happened:
I downloaded the app, created an account, verified it and ran the app. I then sent a game invite to a friend, but since he didnt have the app, I figured I'd try a random person.
As soon as I tried to add a random person, the app crashed. If I try to relaunch, it says "updating..." and crashes shortly after.
I tried reinstalling twice already. The app will run fine until I enter my username and password. It then tries "updating..." and crashes.-

Jack's reply to "Nolonger recieving twitter SMS updates." was just promoted to the most useful! nunofgs and 3 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Hey folks,
Our team is still working diligently on this issue. We have a very detailed whiteboard in our big conference room with our debugging approach. Unfortunately, with SMS, we don't control the last mile. There will be situations where we hand off the SMS to the mobile carrier successfully and it doesn't reach your mobile.
Again, thanks for your patience! I'm personally a big fan of Twitter by SMS, so I hate to see this fail.
Jack.

I am using UZO in Portugal and I have the same issue. Some messages get through and some don't. It's been 3 or 4 days now that I have not received a single SMS.
Regarding telcos, I do believe they have agreements and there are laws regarding the costs of international SMSs. I don't know for a fact if they received a percentage of the cost of the SMS but I do know that money changes hands one way or the other.
However, as users, this does not concern us and IF they are censoring our SMSs, I would say that they are breaching their contract and you would have grounds to terminate it (maybe even take the matter to court).
That is a very unlikely scenario in my opinion though. It's much more likely that this is a problem on twitter's end (or the company that handles their SMS messages).
I would love an official status report from twitter!
