My bad: I didn't see the required confirmation e-mail. Once I confirmed, everything works (using my previously issued API key).

Suggestion: in the API docs, you may want to provide a sample curl request (per your reply above), as it isn't clear from the current documentation how to properly form a request call.

Calling the API only returns string "Authenticate".
