you can turn off posting to twitter here http://foursquare.com/settings
this will leave your accounts linked (so people can find you etc) but by default it'll ask you whether you want to post your checkins to twitter first before posting them

the current version of the app doesn't have this feature. we have an update in the queue that'll expose this

in the meantime, you can get iphone to "forget" your settings by reinstalling the app. sorry for the inconvenience! this change will be live soon enough!

it's possible a superuser closed it accidentally. i just checked and it seems to have been reopened

we haven't been able to reproduce so far. our dev says that there's nothing in the app that affects things at such a low level. we going to continue to watch this. let us know if you're able to run into this again

kat: what you're actually seeing are push notifications (they look like text messages but are not)
