Frequent "red" pokening

I've noticed quite often when pokening I'll get a red pulsing the first couple of times (on one or the other Poken) but a second or third attempt usually solves it.

Is there a technique (palm to palm, what sort of distance apart etc) that makes for a more reliable pairing?

not sure if it's related but I think the site isn't localising timestamps...

I pokened with two new people today and (to see if it would appear on the timeline) an existing contact ... the two that I pokened before 4pm PST (GMT-8) showed as a Nov 3rd activity (yesterday) but just now (6pm PST) the repeat pokening showed up as the correct date (Nov 4)

If I (or more likely) my daughter loses a Poken it would be really cool if the user could log in and flag the Poken as "gone missing" ... would stop it syncing to the account until re-paired, but if another person finds it then the they could be shown a message when they try to connect it - maybe offer a discount on a Poken of their own for returning it?

makes sense. Might be interesting to have an option to "Oh bother. I lost my Poken in a bar. Please show me pending contacts that I paired with but hadn't sync'd and disable my old Poken"

Integration with Facebook, Outlook, LinkedIn etc

I'd love to see Poken become more than just another place to store contact information - I already have LinkedIn, Plaxo, Outlook, Facebook etc for that.

While I like the Poken site I'm not sure it's the best place for me to do everything ... I'd like to be able to sync Poken to Outlook to make sure my contacts are up to date or see my Poken connections in Facebook who I've not friended listed as suggestions...

The Pulse certainly makes for a great Business extension - though a 2GB USB key is pretty limited (I got one, but I also carry around a 16GB key that's got more stuff on it)

The website... IMO still needs a lot of work to make it really engaging and easy to use

Should pairings auto-populate?

I just Poken'ed (what is the correct verb) with my daughter, and she sync'ed to her PC.
As expected I then turned up in her contacts list.

I expected to be able to log into my account and see her available as a contact but it appears that until I physically sync my device that doesn't happen.

Would like to see only one of the two halfs of a Poken pairing need to sync to make the contact details available to accept/reject...

Got my daughter a Ghost poken, but when we tried to add it to the hub tonight there were a bunch of cap images that we didn't see when we went to buy... but the ghost was missing :(

First impressions ... could be last impressions

Any plans to improve the first impressions? I wanted to introduce my daughter to Poken but I don't want to become neighbourhood customer support unless I'm getting paid!

I got 3 poken. One for me to play with, one for my daughter and one for her BFF. I thought maybe it would be a good idea to introduce some of the kids (8-12 yo) at her school to a safer way of sharing contacts.

Sadly after trying to set mine up I'm not sure I'd want to give these cute little devices to kids for fear of having other parents upset with me!

To start... the site really isn't that logical. It look me 30 minutes to create a profile... Club Penguin or Webkinz takes seconds for a 10 year old.

Then to get the device to sync I have to either navigate to some website page and run it (manual mode) or install Java ... yuck! I know whatever you use has to have access to the USB port or at least native file system access to read the data on the device but the Java install (and the bloat it offers to add) is terrible.... please... find a way to do this in Flash or a lightweight click-once Windows app (I think Java is available by default on most Macs but it's not a very popular Windows add-on these days - http://riastats.com)

I'd suggest some work on the UI to make it as easy and engaging as Facebook or Webkinz to get people to engage and get started, with options to turn on "advanced" features and make the UI richer/more professional for the business users

According to the feedback site this has been fixed but when I created my second card in the Hub today it didn't track my name, blog URL, twitter, LinkedIn account details etc.

The "My Name Is E" connector manages with a rechragable battery at a comparable price point.
I'd sad I've just ordered a Poken now as I suspect the first time the battery dies I'll end up throwing it in a drawer and forgetting about it

I agree that knowing the Poken device I've just bought will be compatible with both newer Pokens but also devices like the "My Name is E" connector would be a great reason to tell more friends about Poken (which to be honest looks better with re-chargable battery and RFID support)
