Oli replied on November 01, 2009 21:24 to the idea "Accelerators in text with ampersand" in Balsamiq:
Microsoft calls this feature access keys and since Windows XP (I think), they are not shown by default unless you press the Alt key.
Access keys are used on action items, as an alternative to clicking: buttons, labels next to other widgets and menu items. I can't find the relevant document at the moment, but the access key should usually be a consonant, and thus if you have two menu items that start with the same letter (i.e. Print and Print Preview), you might use "&Print" and "Print Pre&view". (I took this example from Firefox on Windows)
To answer Peldi's latest question: when an ampersand is used without the intent of underlining, is it always followed by a space? If so, that could be how you make it so it does not have to be escaped. In other words, if you used the regular expression "&([a-zA-Z])" and underlined only if there is a matched letter, you should be fine for other users who write about this & that.
You probably don't want to enable this in hyperlinks or inside textboxes, tables, etc. Just labels, menus and buttons.

Oli reported a problem in Balsamiq on September 08, 2009 15:49:
Invoking accelerator repeatedly inserts character in textboxUsing Balsamiq Mockups for Desktop version 1.6.28 with the latest Adobe AIR on Windows XP.
Steps to reproduce:
1 - Insert a Data Grid / Table
2 - Double-click to edit it
3 - Type some text
4 - Invoke an accelerator (i.e. Alt+H)
Expected behaviour:
1 - The corresponding menu pops up
Actual behaviour:
1 - The corresponding menu pops up
2 - The character '8' is inserted once at the current cursor's location (this character appears to be random)
3 - The character 'h' is inserted repeatedly at the current cursor's location, until the Alt key is typed again.-

Oli replied on April 07, 2009 12:46 to the problem "Pingbot@ping.fm won't come online" in Ping.fm:
Actually, the problem is there's no link to http://ping.fm/im/gtalk/ as the Jabber and GTalk options appear to be separate.
I can confirm pingdotfm at gmail.com worked. Recommend being more specific in the instructions to send an _instant_ message (since "message" could be interpreted as "e-mail").
