You need to install the iPod Device Support Add-On. From the Songbird Tools menu choose Add-Ons. Click on the Get Extensions link and search for "iPod Device Support". Now click on the Install Button next to the add-on and choose Install Now. You will have to restart Songbird before you can use the add-on. After you restart Songbird, your ipod will appear (once plugged in) in the Library Pane. Click on the ipod to configure the sync settings.
