Great idea. I think gravatars are a nice solution for the problem with always having to upload profile pictures wherever you sign up.

I just encountered the same issue and after reading this thread I think I understand how it works, but I must say that this part of the Spotify user interface is NOT intuitive... The difference between unused invitations and created tokens could be a lot clearer.

Human-readable URIs

The current URI's are not readable by humans and provide no information except whether its a track, album or artist thats linked. I would like the URI's to be human-friendly and contain information about artist, album and track name for example like this:

http://open.spotify.com/track/6mcxQ1Y...

The strings wouldn't even have to be validated, they could just be appended when creating the link and removed when parsed by Spotify. The hash would still be the thing uniquely identifying the track.

This wouldn't eliminate, but at least reduce, the risk of being rickrolled...

I agree, this feature would be great. I'm thinking it could be done by extending the sidebar to allow artists, albums and songs to be dropped on it. This would simply create shortcuts, it doesn't have to be more complex.
