I've personally sent a "suggestion" to this effect to Twitter.. I explain that adding urls have taken up 90% of my text limitations.. and is there a way to "Hyperlink" keep words within the text entry so that one doesn't have to see the gibberish url data.
I have a feeling twitter did this for a reason as not to allow rampant urls floating about.. Or one can simply have a false url associated with a key word.

Although I have a facebook.. I do not use it. But to create a "hyper linked" badge.. would consist of an image or the URL of where the image is located, then assigning a hyperlink to the image. or something like this
[a href=http://twitter.com/your profile][img src=http://where your image is stored width= xx height=xx /][/a]
If your page allows for code placement.. simply insert the correct code within the header, body or footer of the html or css coding depending on where you want it placed.
Some sites may not allow for HTML or CSS coding directly on to or within the page.. and one may need to use alternate means of inserting the codes.. like creating a "module". Which allows for many variances of coding.
Note: The code above was altered in order for one to see it and can be adjusted by correcting the ( [ ] ) characters with the ( > < ) characters.

I was looking into this, this morning. it would seem if someone wishes to be "verified" with Twitter, one would need to follow the advice at this link and they do supply the log which would need to be placed on your site.

True it would be nice to have an option within the main text window that allows you to type in "anyone Name" very simpler to #JohnQPublic etc this would indicate who or even where this person is (assuming you have the address name correct and they have registered it the same Or you may end up with someone who is not whom you need it to be) and may even send out a signal to that person letting them know your online and tweet back.. having to switch screen is somewhat of a hassle.
Our Gorman replied on October 18, 2009 15:18 to the question "How do i create a topic in twitter?" in Twitter:
Upon arriving at twitter.. One must realize that they are talking alone. Much like a bird singing in the forest. We hear you, and some may follow.. depending on the subject matter.. if you tag a remark like Twitter (as the subject matter) one must use the mention tag line of ( # ) character. This will create an area where others may focus their twitters.. thus creating a #Twitter category.
I have invited a few persons to Twitter and spoken with them in person.. there main issue is that they don't like the concept of logging in and just speaking aloud (which is what your doing) until you follow someone or more over they follow you.
Again using the reference of the "Bird In The Forest" You Sing.. Then one day another bird will sing back to you.. thus you have a follower or at least someone to speak with. granted this will not happen over night, but Twitter gives you a fighting chance to have your Tweets head upon log in as invites of "suggested Tweets" to follow.
