Well I guess it's like that, otherwise you would have to re-encrypt etc. the file every time you do a maintenance upload and I personally haven't seen that happening.

I've reported this in this topic some days ago:
    http://getsatisfaction.com/wuala/topi...

@Bugreport: Are you sure about that? So I just have to spread the files for a while before they go to the 'clearable' cache?

Wuala seems to be very stable once a file is completely uploaded.
My problem is I am having lots of trouble getting the files in wuala without them becoming zombies. 1.2GB in uploads folder from a month ago.

Yes these are my files and I have write permission. Would it be possible to have an optional read only integration? I would rather iTunes not be able to modify anything. – paf0, 4 days ago

I'd rather not wait for a file to stream where possible. The cache also contains files that I browse, right? My files can get bumped out of the cache if access a lot of other files? I also thought the local backup option would be useful for syncing files. If a file is inserted on one machine, it would definitely be available for quick access on another. If the files are spread out enough they will be moved automatically to your cache and can be purged there afterwards.

Edit: 3,3 GB is amazing? Well you better not look at my folders then! ;-)

Specifically Caleido\Wuala\Data and in there most importantly \Caleido\Wuala\Data\Local2

Data is 3.333GB and Local2 occupies some 3.225GB of that and Meta occupies some 108MB (which is not that much of a problem...)

And Wuala doesn't Upload so i have to assume that all the files have finished uploading (and the program also says that)

I cleared my Cache before checking those numbers.

    System Specs:
    WinXp SP3
    2GB DDR
    amdx2 3800+
    500gb wd sata

My Data Folder Occupies some amazing 3.3GB (on my prime pc on which i dont share at all)... That is roughly equal to what I uploaded from that PC. That is why I thought that there still was a local backup...

Should I just delete the files or is there another solution?

i could not reproduce it with itunes on mac. When metas or tags are changed via itunes, wuala delelte the original file and upload it again - completely.

as fas as i noticed by now.. well. haven ́t heared via itunes since the last update. maybe something changed..

    Hi paf0,

We are really sorry for that. Your assumption is right - it looks like iTunes tried to update the mp3 file. But instead of updating some parts, Wuala deleted the original file content and wrote only the updated mp3 tags.

A few days ago, we found a bug which could be directly related to your problem. Todays update contains this bugfix and I hope it will also fix your issue (as I could not reproduce your problem, I cannot test it..).

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do :(

Edit: I assume these are your files and you have write permissions?

Wuala doesn't keep a local backup any more. When a file is inserted into Wuala, Wuala copies it into its upload cache and keeps it there until it is uploaded. When the upload is finished, it is moved to the regular cache whose size you can adjust in the settings.

@Darkstriker: if you think Wuala occupies much more space than it should, please let me know which folders occupy much storage, maybe we can do something about it.

    Files corrupted by iTunes?
I noticed that random mp3 files will not play. I opened the wuala gui and found that these files are now only 1k in length. I have the files all downloaded to my Windows XP machine and imported into iTunes over the W drive. I opened one of the 1k files in Notepad and found that it only contains the ID3 tag. I suspect at some point that iTunes decided to update the tag and the filesystem rewrote the entire file as opposed to just updating the tag.

    Any ideas?

The file is clearly marked as downloaded in the UI so I'm not sure what else I can do.

I would like the choice per file (or maybe folder) wether or not, and on which of my PCs the local backup is kept.

    Hi people,

I don't think, that this issue has been addressed sufficiently. I don't want to have a local backup. In fact, I would too like to disable local backup even on machines where I do need direct access. This has several reasons. When I copy data into Wuala, I don't delete the corresponding files on my HDD because most of them are backups such as my Firefox profile and I hence need that on my local drive directly anyways. Therefore the Local backup costs me enormous amount of storage. Same accounts for the music I uploaded. I don't need a second copy of that on my HDD. I wont delete it from my library since that would be simply impractical but I cannot delete the unwanted backup by wuala. If I were to use the wuala backups to listen to music I would put my processor under a constant strain of decrypting which is just completely rediculous.
    Concluding:
I want that option back since this backup feeds on my HDD space which I need for other things... and if wuala so desperately need the files afterwards, store the location on the local hdd and reencrypt until the network coverage is sufficient for the local data to be unnecessary.

And I am quite sure, I am not alone!
