I would suggest that you hand wash the bag in mild detergent (Woolite, etc.) and then hang the bag out to dry. Generally the best way to clean a bag is going to be spot cleaning like you're doing, but to get the smell out and provide more of an overall cleaning I would follow the instructions above.

HELP caffinated sheep
I spilled coffee in my bag - it has a white plastic interior and magenta wood exterior - what's the best way to clean it? I wiped down the inside with a damp sponge, but the coffee soaked through to the wool, and I'd like to get the smell out.
