Sorry about not replying. Yes, I've removed code from the system that downgrades users; You should no longer get removed from being marked as an employee.
If this happens again, I'll need to investigate more to see the actual cause but as far as I know all of the code around the system that would downgrade a user is gone.

If a colleague adds me back, my status will stay intact for a few page views, then revert back to non-employee, non-admin status.
A comment on the question "Making privacy settings retroactive" in Brightkite:
Great, this was one thing that was confusing. Does it make sense not to just have a retroactive function, but a global real time policy? Meaning, if someone clicks on the BK url, the information on the page is related, real-time, to how the users has their privacy settings set. As an aside, this is what I was expecting the 'privacy' slider to do. – parker, on May 10, 2008 18:57
