So I had the exact same question, but didn't find the answer anywhere online, including the eBay forums, that I avoid anyway because of the massive negativity there.

Here is the answer: As soon as you make the counteroffer to the buyer, the buyer's original offer is cancelled, which sucks actually.

Keep in mind you can contact the buyer and make a deal outside of eBay. Of course eBay doesn't want that, which is why they built the Best Offer system in the first place. eBay also tries to scare you away from such by including in their messages that dealing outside eBay is against their policy, and *dangerous*. Not really. Dealing outside of eBay probably costs eBay millions of dollars annually.

Of course I agree that twitter has no malicious intent, but that doesn't much help you guys with suspended accounts. I really don't feel the same that "it does work". For twitterers who have invested in building this way of communicating to their constituents, who in turn become reliant on such, then twitter unilaterally stops it, well that is worse than not having the service to begin with. This issue highlights the boldface irresponsibility of twitter. I'll stick with facebook, or just email!
