Hi peccatorimpius, emails from Verizon were causing a lot of duplicate posts and notifications for our users, so we had to block them. This has happened twice in the past, so now we are waiting on word from Verizon that this problem has been fixed. For status updates on things like this you can friend us on Brightkite (username: Brightkite).

t3mujin, we don't have any sort of ETA at this point. Once we get the iPhone app out the door we'll be able to focus on some of these features that have been lingering for a while. :) – Lesley, on July 23, 2008 16:22

Thanks for the response. I understand that brightkite needs to use the "raw" password to talk to Twitter, but I would recommend storing the password in your database in encrypted fashion. That way a simple SQL query or dump would not expose them to malicious use. Only a programmer with knowledge of the encryption mechanism and keys would be able to gain access. – peccatorimpius, on July 01, 2008 22:40

A comment on the idea "Post to Twitter" in Brightkite:
We take all the necessary precautions to protect your account information and the BK employees do not have access to your password unless we absolutely need it. Ideally, we would prefer to not have to take your Twitter password, but Twitter does not give us any other way to integrate with them (e.g. using OAuth, or some other token-based authentication). – Lesley, on June 27, 2008 22:03
