Peter Hellberg replied on December 09, 2009 16:27 to the question "GPL and VoddlerPlayer.exe" in Voddler:
I think Voddler has put themselves in a serious position here, and not responding to the community is not the solution.
Got som information from the FAQ over at http://gpl-violations.org/
What kind of source code do I have to publish under the GNU GPL?
The GNU GPL demands that as soon as you distribute GPL licensed software in executable format you make available the "complete corresponding source code". The GNU GPL also contains a definition of this term:
“ The source code for a work means the preferred form of the work for making modifications to it. For an executable work, complete source code means all the source code for all modules it contains, plus any associated interface definition files, plus the scripts used to control compilation and installation of the executable. ”
What version of the source code do I have to release?
For each and every version of the executable program, you have to release the precisely corresponding version of the complete corresponding source code.
Is the GPL enforceable in law ?
At least in Germany yes, and while we've seen scare stories from elsewhere we see no evidence to believe it is not enforceable globally.
What can I do if I encounter a GPL violation?
The gpl-violations.org project keeps track of reported GPL violations in its internal request tracking system. If you want to report an alleged violation, please write to license-violation(AT)gpl-violations.org, and make sure to ``enable --verbose mode'', i.e. include as much details as possible.-

A comment on the question "API out soon or do we create our own ugly hacks?" in Spotify:
I sure hope that the "Legal Department" over at Spotify looks at this the right way and realize that it's a Good ThingTM and that they should support hacking of this kind, especially when it doesn't hurt their core business model. – Peter Hellberg, on February 24, 2009 15:46
A comment on the idea "I want to scrobble to last.fm" in Spotify:
It would be awesome with a plugin framework but until that happens this is a good solution. And the client is far from bloated. – Peter Hellberg, on December 19, 2008 16:18

A comment on the idea "Undos and Airport" in Spotify:
We get (sub-second) delays in the audio over wireless. So in our office the solution is not optimal. It might work a bit better if we were using a wired network. – Peter Hellberg, on October 18, 2008 18:08

Peter Hellberg replied on October 18, 2008 17:54 to the idea "Spotify needs to be a proper music library player, like i-tunes" in Spotify:
I would also like to be able to play music not found on Spotify with the same client.
The interface could be as simple as having a new section in the preferences where you add the directory of your music archive. The artist overview could have a new section called "Local library" or something like that.
It would obviously not be possible to share playlists with songs from your personal archive.
@Spotify: Is the client capable of playing anything else than Ogg Vorbis?
Peter Hellberg replied on October 18, 2008 17:46 to the problem "airport compability" in Spotify:

One solution is to use Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba. It lets you play any sound over AirTunes. (Even system sounds if you are using OS X).
We use it at our office, and it works ok with one AirPort Express. Unfortunately our solution does not work that well with more than one AirPort because the delay will be different between multiple AirPorts.
I would obviously like Spotify to implement it directly in the client. (But then you might have to reverse engineer the AirTunes protocol?)
Peter Hellberg shared an idea in Spotify on October 18, 2008 17:37:
Notification with the reason for a song being removedIt would be nice to get a small notification with the reason for a song being removed instead of it just turning red in the playlist.
It would also be nice if songs where automagically replaced if available somewhere else on Spotify.
A comment on the idea "Spotify Remote Control" in Spotify:
This is not exactly what my idea is all about but yeah, it would be a nice addition to the client.
What I'm talking about is an API for third party applications to remote control Spotify. – Peter Hellberg, on October 17, 2008 22:07
