A comment on the question "Involuntary language change of youtube account" in YouTube:
From what I've been told the language is, strangely enough, primarily stored in your cookie. There is a user setting preference for language but I think it's only used to determine which language to send email notifications in.
I don't know why YouTube is constantly reguessing your language preference. It's obviously not easy enough to use and I thought we sorted that out by now. Until someone has the time to look into it, the only fix I can think of is configuring your browser & computer to prefer English over Swedish, if possible. – Phil Harnish, on October 05, 2009 00:42
A comment on the question "Involuntary language change of youtube account" in YouTube:
Your browser is sending an accept-language which says "I understand Swedish (from Sweden "sv-se" or anywhere "sv") and English (from United States "en-us" or anywhere "en") but I prefer Swedish".
Search the internet for instructions on how to fix your system's accept-language. This will greatly help YouTube understand which language you want. Your browser is asking for Swedish and you are asking for English. YouTube will use your user preference and ignore the browser whenever possible but this doesn't always work (if you ever log out, for example). – Phil Harnish, on October 04, 2009 16:42

Hey,
Visit this page first: http://www.ericgiguere.com/tools/http...
If your browser "accept-language" isn't "en" then then YouTube might not send English.
If your computer is in Sweden, your computer is configured for Sweden, and you aren't logged in... the site's best guess is Swedish. Computers in Spain, configured for Spanish should get Spanish at first :)
Clearing cookies or logging out could reset your language preference and force us to guess what you want again. If you can think of a more convenient way we could do this we'd be happy to consider it.
Thanks! – Phil Harnish, on October 04, 2009 00:03

Yeah, the engineers at YouTube are always working on new ideas and HTML5 is a promising one. A google search turns up some results on our progress http://www.google.com/search?sourceid...

Make sure you have your accept-language set properly [check here: http://www.ericgiguere.com/tools/http...]. You should see "en", "en-US", or similar. – Phil Harnish, on June 14, 2009 08:12

No problem Alex! Thank you for volunteering to help too :) – Phil Harnish, on June 04, 2009 18:10

You will see I'm an employee there too. Both the YouTube and Google companies on GetSatisfaction are not official avenues for help. Surely you don't find that surprising ;)
The employees listed, like myself, are just volunteers with a wide variety of jobs who enjoy working at Google and want to help others. You can find official help from people who officially help others on various Google websites. – Phil Harnish, on June 04, 2009 17:22

I'd love to however I'm afraid that might a little tricky. Both YouTube and, say, a small startup would love to have all the help it can get. And for that, I really appreciate your volunteering.
Unfortunately, YouTube has grown to be large enough that there is some amount of risk involved when an "official employee" posts anything anywhere.
Furthermore our feedback and community efforts here on GetSatisfaction are still in their early stages. I think you will find the opportunity to be far more useful to YouTube's community on our official support forums:

Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks :)
Phil Harnish gave praise in Get Satisfaction on April 25, 2009 02:50:
Thank you for usability over "security"!Bravo for the helpful "account not found" message when trying to log in! So many sites use the generic "username and password do not match" message and some cite it as a deterrent to brute force guessing. Ha! As if there aren't other obvious ways to check if an account name is already registered...

I assume you mean the new RealTime thingy? If so, I can set you up. I can only invite friends so maybe you could add me? http://www.youtube.com/philharnish
I'll invite anyone else who's interested. Please post here though so I know to accept the friend request.
