OS X Agent

We are currently working hard on the OS X Agent and getting it stable. One thing that helps when filling in a bug report is to switch on logging to the console.

STEP 1
Open the following plist file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.soocial.SoocialSync.plist
(easy editing can be done with the Property List Editor, a tool that comes with Apple’s Developer Tools)

STEP 2
Now we want to show a special debug button in the Soocial Preference pane. This will be done by adding a new Child to the root. Call it “SoocialShowDebugButton” with class “Boolean” and value “YES”.

STEP 3
In System Preferences in your Soocial preference pane, there will be a button now that will trigger a separate window where you can switch on debugging and view some extra details about the syncing progress. In this window turn on “Print info on Console”.



STEP 4
Then open your Console.app (in /Applications/Utilities) and send us the logs you see relating to the SoocialSyncTool.

This will help us greatly in finding and solving bugs you are experiencing.

If you are not in a country that supports an automatic configuration text message then you can still use Soocial by setting up your phone manually. Many phones have different ways to do this, but in general you must fill in the following information:

1. Server: sync.soocial.com
2. Username: your Soocial username
3. Password: your Soocial password
4. Port: 80
5. Set to include contacts synchronization

Other fields do not matter, but be sure to have a working internet connection.

Soocial is available in every country as long as you have an internet connection.

However, the sms configuration message that sets up your phone is only available for the following countries (this list will grow quickly)

Australia
Belgium
France
Germany
Italy
Spain
The Netherlands
United Kingdom
United Status
Canada
and New Zealand.

If you don't reside in one of these countries fear not, you can manually setup your phone to do this.

You can configure your phone to sync with Soocial by doing the following:

Select Menu > Settings > Configuration and then the following option.

Personal config.sett. – to add a new personal account select Add; otherwise, select Options > Add new. Select the service type, and select and enter each of the required parameters.

* Server version: 1.1
* Host address: http://sync.soocial.com
* Data bearer: Internet
* Port: 80
* Username: your Soocial username
* Password: your Soocial password
* Access point: (Pick an existing working internet access point)
* Contacts Database: Contacts (no username or password required)

To delete or activate a personal account, scroll to it, and select Options > Delete or Activate.

To delete a contact, simply delete it online, on your phone/pda or in your Address Book. The next time you sync, your contact will have been removed.

Automatic syncing is great as this comes close to Soocial’s vision hassle-free contacts.

Most new Sony Ericsson phones have automatic syncing for instance. SE’s automatic syncing is based on choosing intervals (ie. 24hours, or 1 hour) on which the phone will connect to the internet syncing service.

This is a performance issue related to having many contacts. The Soocial team are hard at work to get this issue resolved.
