A comment on the problem "MT(5) installation problems once again" in Six Apart:
If you think that is best, I'm ok with it. As we linked there, ok. I just want to post the solution to be posted here, as I'm of the opinion one will find it here easier! (Also given not everyone knows / uses / likes to use normal forums, after they get to know GetSatisfaction. At least that's it for me. :p) – Philipp Grunwald, on September 11, 2009 06:21

Hi there,
thanks for all your help. To provide a solution (hint) here, I'd like to repost:
I talked to my hosting provider.
The main issue is Perl.
1). First, the memory needed by MT(5). I need to know how high the memory consumption/need (at max.) is.
2). If possible, I do also have to know the (maximum) runtime of this Perl script / the Perl scripts in general. This would help me in case an adjustment to the memory doesn't help.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Incoming e-mail highlight notification inconsistent?Good morning,
I want to ask why is it that (sometimes) the e-mail icon seems to indicate that there is a new message, when the hover-over indeed shows that it only "successfully" checked for no e-mail?! The orange highlighting distracts and confuses, if it doesn't consistently signals one certain state! Indeed I also expect from flock to regularly check my webmail (GMail), so I'd need no indication for that. Also, from a productivity standpoint, this would be even better, yet one can't schedule checking e-mails e.g. in hour cycles or at a certain time of day only.
You can of course change the topic type to an idea, if that would better fit your process...
Thanks for listening.
Kind regards.

MT(5) installation problems once againHi there,
as with every major release (~2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5), I once again try to install MT and yet I haven't achieved it. Now I tried the MT 5.0b1 and did:
1). Upload the whole stuff
2). Give the *.cgi's the permissions plus to the "support" folder (didn't put mt-static outside mt, because that didn't work)
3). I did upload the mt-config.cgi with the correct database settings
4). I did NOT clean out the database which could contain fragments of old installation tries
5). I did create a "blog" folder at my ./ root level, as it didn't work else
6). I had to give not only 755 but 777 permissions to the /blog/ folder, so that it continues here:
This is how far I've come, as said, if I don't do step 5. + 6., it doesn't even go any further when clicking "Finish install". Yet what I mean which "continuing"/ "going further", is that it TRIES to load the "./mt/mt-upgrade.cgi" path/file. Still I only see a white screen (it shows "done", so seems to have finished loading). I have deactivated AdBlockPlus.
What is my problem here, what should I check for?
Thanks for your help in advance!
Kind regards

Why can't one insert a website into an event directly??Hi there facebook team,
I want to thank you, I REALLY love your event feature! Really. But there is one thing I don't understand: Why for gods sake can't one integrate a website link in the process??
I mean, we're IN the www, we communicate by your platform and although one has the chance to put so much input in there, what most people would need to have, is a link to the website, to go more into detail. Especially for business events or stuff that is not just a picnic with friends!
And as one wants to add this link into fb via "post link", facebook currently tries to post it to my friends instead of into the event site! There's something wrong, please also look into that.
Thank you for listening!
Kind regards

Star/favorite Google/GMail help articlesHi there,
I seldomly do search / use the great Google/GMail Help section, but if I use it, I need it!
And what I subsequently miss, is to somehow favorite/star all those articles important to me!
(I don't want to store everything in Evernote, OneNote or in my bookmarks ;-))
Would it be possible to implement sth. like that? What do you think? :-)
Thanks for listening!
Kind regards

Hi there Zachary, thanks for providing the logos!
Please not that they are missing on the press site of Mozilla in the Labs section.
You could add them there.
My question is: Am I allowed to use the old (and/or new) logo as an avatar in my forum(s) of choice? Thanks for your help in advance!
Kind regards

Ok, I do have the question if there isn't a way of reroute those topics? Or would this be a space/financial problem? Because as I just now clicked on my e-mail notification I got an "not found" error. PS: What site is this? My password manager doesn't recognize it as GetSatisfaction. :( You can mail be concerning both questions. – Philipp Grunwald, on September 03, 2009 22:39

Hi there,
just found this topic via the search. Seems you planned a lot (e.g. Jauders requests above) but none of that happened? :(
You may have noticed I didn't post any further feature requests over the last year as I'm sure I only would('ve) repeat(ed) myself accidentally as my original feature requests weren't implemented...

Notes - feature requests, e.g. link insertingHi there facebook team,
one thing I really don't understand, constantly frustrates me and withholds me from using the notes feature even more is: You can't "properly" insert links like within my "What are you up to?" newsfeed or the share dialogue! Why?? This is just unnecessary and costs time if you have to use HTML.
Another point is: Why is the Notes feature so somehow "hidden"? Why do I have to manually drag it up to my applications in the left lower corner while every peace of cr*p (like auto-"bookmarks" of crazy apps from my "fields" page) resides there where I haven't (actively) put it?! And/or why is the "create new note" button not found somewhere else more directly accessible?
And why don't you offer to directly post/share to notes? One would use the notes feature much more often when you'd offer a convenient way of publishing with notes!
Another point that comes to my mind is, why do note previews have a shorter preview text then posted news items, although it is clear that they almost always will exceed most posted news items in length? (Or is this just a subjective feeling?)
Thanks for listening! Kind regards.

Why can't one correct typos in shared news items?Hi there,
I'm wondering why can't correct, but only delete, news items one posted to ones newsfeed?
I just now saw that I somehow put a stupid keyboard character as first character of the whole paragraph. Especially if there are comments to the news item (although not this time for me), it is imho no option to delete and repost it! Also the reposting just looks like spamming / very unprofessional, so I don't like to do that at all.
What about you facebook team? ;)
Thanks for listening.
Kind regards.
