I'm sorry everybody - I should have been more patient. During the import process, I get the dialog indicating that Songbird is searching for and removing duplicates. Since the Songbird process wasn't using any CPU time, I assumed that it was hung up. I decided to let it run anyway and it eventually completed normally.

I am also experiencing this when I try to import my music files on the latest version of Ubuntu with mp3s from /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/multimedia in folder music. I am using a clean install of the latest Songbird version. The files exist and are accessible - I can open them with VLC, Amarok, and even iTunes under Wine. If I import my iTunes library file into Songbird it works well.

Is there a workaround for this? I would love to trash iTunes.
