Web of Trust - WOT Add-on for Songbird (feature suggestion)Hello again Songbird Team and Community,
I have a feature suggestion:
What about having the WOT - Web of Trust plugin available for Songbird??
For those not familiar with WOT, it's a security add-on that determines website reliability based on users ratings and comments, and the WOT software itself. The site rating is displayed as a color icon in the browser toolbar or taskbar. Please visit the site for more info on WOT, i think it's a great tool and it would be an amazing addition to SB's browsing safety as well.
Happy Xmas everyone!

Hi sammyhellsyea!
Perhaps you should talk directly to the add-on author, rcw003, on the add-on page.
good luck

Since you mentioned bloggers, btw, i guess i should say i made a button out of the SB frontpage logo and posted it on my Last.fm profile with a link back to SB, you know... just for the purpose of spreading the word! The only thing is i didn't ask for permisson :-P, Is that OK to use these?? (and the mascot, maybe?) Changing only shapes and bg colors, with no logo or artwork modification?

oh the beak layer is too smudgy on the inner part (i thought it was too crisp... anyways it's a sketch) :-P hehe – plasticmadness, on November 20, 2008 03:47

hmmm... it reminisces the Azureus blue frog icon, so i guess it wouldn't be as original... i'm staring to get into the orange icon. well, but anyway, i think we all agree at least in one point here: the bird seriously needs a headphone (not orange, of course). and it could, perhaps,...be farting?! – plasticmadness, on November 20, 2008 02:54

what if you make the eye white with black flare, and give the beak some color. (and of course heaphones, but later) – plasticmadness, on November 20, 2008 01:59

btw, i've been having some fun here with the white circle idea, and the result was quite pathetic, so i take back my previous suggestion. no white circles, lol, it could be a decent web button though. but hey i colored the headphones, and that i kind of liked. – plasticmadness, on November 20, 2008 00:28-

I guess the most common songbirds are, actually, yellow/orange-ish. I googled it and i found this (amongst other images of yellowish sb's): http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAbout... – plasticmadness, on November 19, 2008 05:16

Oh! Now i see this is the infamous orange bird everyone is talking about... I actually like it, only perhaps it could be farting and have headphones instead? (i guess it would then resemble jkoshi's familiar and beloved farting bird) As i said on Dustin's topic ( http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t... ), i guess a black icon is really complicated... – plasticmadness, on November 19, 2008 05:01

I'm sorry if i this is a stupid question, but what orange bird? I can't see that anywhere (or i'm color blind and i just found out!):-s
But i agree with you, it rather be a bird with a headphone.
There is a comment on the SB blog that says the headphone is just a placeholder, so i'm not concerned.
About the icon color, i think it's complicated.
I love the blackbird, but for the purpose of a windows taskbar icon, for instance, i guess it's too dark and gets easily camouflaged.
The solution could be puting the blackbird inside a very circle with a white background. I guess it would be fine though if the the bird's headphone was colored, like red or blue (just saying'...) or even if the bird was stylized (like 3d, wingless, only with the headphones, whistling, etc.)
plasticmadness replied on November 08, 2008 16:43 to the discussion "When will we get a version that doesn't hog the cpu and ram?" in Songbird:
At the current moment i have my Songbird running 5 browser tabs open, plus the library itself which is like 1500 songs, plus pretty much all the SB add-ons available. That is costing 202MB of RAM and 10-16% CPU usage. That is a lot, fine. But there's a point i think we're missing here, which is seeing songbird as combo - when instead of songbird alone, i have firefox and winamp both running, i have a RAM/CPU usage as high as Songbird's, actually much higher sometimes (specially with firefox because i have a lot of plugins). But of course i guess it also depends on your system specs. I'm running vista ultimate on a core 2 duo 4GB RAM, and I don't remember Songbird ever freezing my computer or freezing itself, but Winamp does that a hell of lot, sometimes for apparently no reason (probably library size) and so does firefox, specially concerning flashplayer matters. But i don't know if the software's improvement is compatible with reasonable RAM/CPU usage. It seems logical that if you want something to perform a lot of tasks, it's gonna take more effort and resources of whatever kind needed.-
