A comment on the question "Older version of Xobni available?" in Xobni:
To James from Xobni Team - Please be considerate and do not remove links to old versions of Xobni. This is really hostile. I am pointing to official software and not some illegal stuff. This is your software which you made available and is still officially available on some software review sites. It's hostile act when you can't fix your software but force users to use new handicapped version. – polocanada, on December 08, 2009 03:49

Overall, I don't like the new interface, it's slower, everything is slower, it's not hanging or anything, but instead of instant reaction, now it takes 500 milliseconds to 1 second. Before everything moved instant in Xobni. The resolution seems to be worse and everything is light gray. Can hardly read. Overall program is more bulky, of course because of all the new features you added to have users sign up. Also the 1.8 version seems to hang Outlook when it's closing down. That way, when Outlook is restarted, Xobni complains it can't run 2nd copy of the program, because one instance is still running. Wasn't problem in 1.7.
Revision to my previous post above: The attachments view for person was available in version 1.7 as well, this is not a new function. Seems v1.8 also offers search window for attachments. Maybe I'm wrong. I can't check, it's uninstalled now.
I will stick with v1.7 which works fine and efficient. No offense please, but unfortunately I don't have time to debug this new 1.8, unless I am paid for doing it ;-)
Again, thank you Xobni team for hard work and for creating this amazing useful tool and good luck with fixing it again to appeal to business users (mostly). You really have to make it work at least as snappy as the v. 1.7.
To my peers: to stop Xobni from auto-updating itself to version 1.8, you have to create 2 rules in Firewall to block updates. Here are pictures of my Kerio firewall.
#1 ...\program files\xobni\xobniserviceupdatesexec\xobniupdater.exe
You don't need to specify port and address. Actually it's better if you create a blank rule to block all connection attempts for this Xobni Update application, because you won't get bothered when the application attempts to connect to another port or server. #2 ...:\program files\xobni\xobniservice.exe
This rule is more important than the above.. Again, you don't need to specify port and address. Actually it's better if you create a blank rule to block all connection attempts for this Xobni Update application, because you won't get bothered when the application attempts to connect to another port or server. Here is pic.. http://i48.tinypic.com/2hgzr5j.jpg
Both rules won't prevent Xobni from reaching LinkedIn, Facebook and Hoovers. Xobni seems to access this using Outlook's HTTP, so it doesn't get blocked by the above rules.
Good luck to all.

The new version of Xobni is no good. It is full of marketing stuff which offers to purchase upgrade, that's why is bloated and crashing my outlook, it's sluggish and the interface is really annoying (with exception of the attachments window). I will uninstall this version and reinstall the old one. The only problem is I have to block Xobni in firewall so it doesn't connect to Xobni website for autoupdate.

I would try to add Sunbelt or Counterspy installation folder or it's executable into NOD32 as an Exception. Not sure if this tells Nod32 to simply not scan the folder or not scan that running program from that folder. Probably it's the first case since program lauch as process with Dlls etc so it wouldn't be effective protection if it disables scanning for a particular process as a result of adding it to exceptions. But it's worth trying...
In my particular case I wasn't able to run Active Protection because my 64-bit Windows 7 blocked the driver as soon as I enabled the active protection. Windows says the driver is not compatible and was blocked when it tried to load. It seems CounterSpy is not compatible with Windows 7. I have current trial Version of Counterspy: 3.1.2775. Windows 7 is final version Enterprise.
Since it's not compatible I wouldn't spend money for it right now. I can use Ad-Aware for regular scanning. Or here is a bunch of other tools which you can run and are free in basic versions......
