Switching from GIF to PNG solved my problem, although strangely, I was able to upload some other GIFs just fine. (They just weren't square images.) All of the files I tried to upload were RGB, am in FF 3.0.4.

I changed my image from a gif to a jpeg and that solved my problem

Hi rachelteamico. A lot of other users have found that changing the image format to either a .jpg or a .png allows them to upload their profile pic. Perhaps that will help you too...? – mdy, on November 25, 2008 13:19

Also having a problem uploading my picture but see that Twitter is working on it and should be resolved soon. I've tried both Firefox and IE.

Update: we're still having problems with uploading profile pictures. This is happening across multiple browsers with multiple file types. We're aware of this issue and working on fixing it. Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

The problem seems to be with gifs - maybe jpegs too, I didn't try that. However, I was able to upload and swap out pngs with no problem. Using Firefox on both Mac & PC.

Have tried both IE and FF. Finally got it to upload a GIF in IE after converting the image from index to RGB mode
