Very interesting, and a good idea at the end, but the code for an auto-calibration feature would probably be quite complex. Also I doubt the headphones are delivering delayed sound because unless you have some fancy headphones with their own processor or sound remixingthingymagig electricity travels quite a bit bit faster than sound. (Although the time difference over the 30cm from your head to the phone would be almost un-measurably small, I'd do the calculations but I'm supposed to be doing coursework).

As for feedback I think perhaps something similar to the dance dance revolution arcade game where you have Perfect, Good, Ok, Bad and Miss would be a great addition, as long as you could turn it off, personally I'm now used to the splashes, but when I was starting (awesome as I am), such a feature would have helped me understand the game considerably.
See what the 'public' think, I'm sure if enough people like the idea it could be put into a future version, I'm gonna make my guess at 2.4 or 2.5 :P. – R0ck1t, on April 20, 2009 06:40

I notice just be before and after the quieter bit in Wrong, after the first verse, some of the taps are very slightly out of sync with the music, also after the second verse in the chorusy bit when it becomes a bit more intense.
There is always going to be some slight deviation, perhaps it's because I played the song (too) many times in a row, I was so used the tune and tappers that my brain could pick up on where it might not be 100% in-line.

The human brain is a remarkable thing, whilst most people cannot consciously tap (see what I did) into it's full potential with training people can use it to identify the exact frequency of a note or notice minuscule changes in things. I'm pretty sure that with many OCDish people you could remove less than mm from the bottom of a chair they often sit on and they would 'feel' like something was wrong. (Classic fiction reference there if anyone fancies it). – R0ck1t, on April 20, 2009 05:06

I suppose it depends on whether or not your an 'artist' or a 'scientist', I would prefer it if each note was in the exact right place especially with the complicated and rapid tapping bits. Perhaps one or two 'cheeky' out of sync notes during the easy/slower sections of a song would 'personalise' them a bit but when playing 155, or however many there are now, different songs it would be hard to memorise 'inaccurate tappers'. – R0ck1t, on April 20, 2009 04:30

Hmm perhaps, I used to have my thumb positioned rather high and I found it difficult to get perfects when tapping in tune, when I noticed that problem It was fixed but now it's more uncomfortable, I even resort to one handed, three finger tapping for the 'three note' songs because my hands seem to big for the phone.
I imagine this sort of feature could cause a whole lot of problems online though, then again I didn't program the game so it might just be possible to add user controls to a variable. – R0ck1t, on April 20, 2009 03:51

I have this problem a lot, even when I've restarted the iPhone. I find that the game crashes or lags during the first 30sec of the song. Perhaps set a time limit, anyone who quits in the first 30sec will be exempt from point deduction. Of course people will still quit if they make a mistake at the start but at least it will be fairer on those of us with temperamental iPhones that occasionally throw a strop. – R0ck1t, on April 20, 2009 03:48

Ahh just I know some friends who don't shut up about a guy they play with DX in his name. I don't console game either (Seeing as the wii doesn't really count).
I really only play AA and COD4 on PC, FPS' are always better on PC due to the mouse and extra buttons, plus none of that auto-aim rubbish. Although I'm told there's a lot less jumping and going prone on consoles, especially when throwing grenades.
    Wait what's this topic about again? – R0ck1t, on April 20, 2009 03:36

Yeah I agree with DX on that point (Do you play COD4 of 360 by the way?), you can't say that the game needs to adjust to you, that's just silly.

However in 'Wrong' some of the spheres are definitely out of time, I remember it being in a section that repeats 3 or 4 times. When I played it about 5x through to get in the top 100 I just accommodated for this. Although I must get about 1/3 or a 1/4 hits non-perfect anyway so It can't have made a gigantic difference.

    R0ck1t
I would like an in-depth online rank per song, so that I can browse and see the sort of scores I need to be in the top 100. And perhaps, like already as implemented with the challenge mode, a 'challenge this score' where not unlike a Ghost mode in racing games you can challenge any top 100 or top 1000 score.
Of course that would require lots more code and server space but I reckon it could be done. Who knows what TTR3 will bring :P.

When I tap the tap and holds at the beginning I find they last no where near as long as they should, I also find that ignoring the tune for this song helps. Was part of the 'irony' that the tap sheet doesn't match the song?
I was 54th last time I checked, hope I haven't gone down (up) because I can't be bothered to do it again.

    R0ck1t
Are you talking about the touches or the shakes, I can do the touches perfectly, and have done offline and occasionally when I don't lag online. I touch but it does not respond, then lags for what must be 1/10th of a second, and then I loose my streak and it carries on.
I just played again, and the same thing happened, it's always when there is two taps at the same time, my thumbs hit the screen at exactly the right the time, together, but it only seems to register one. – R0ck1t, on April 20, 2009 01:57

I'm having further problems with this, I've noticed this particularly when there are regular taps alongside or close to tap and holds. For example in Get Smashed Gate Crash.
It's really ruining my attempt to make it to No.1, (I'm having the third thumb installed next week), luckily very few people seem to 100% songs so I can always make it to 2nd or 3rd when I loose my streak halfway through.

And the arrows please do not put them so close together in any more songs, I am certain that it is 100% impossible to get points for every arrow in Get Smashed Gate Crash. Not even the weird mutants in the top 10.
The accelerometer just isn't quick enough.
The best I can manage is to score every other shake.

The ads are fine, a good few 1000% less annoying that web ads. I mean I occasionally hit one which is annoying but with such an awesome game free I'm not too bothered.

A comment on the question "Is the contest legal?" in Tapulous:

    R0ck1t
I assume it's a Global contest, just shove a '*' and a condition that requires entry to be legal in your country/state/county and for you to be 16 or 17 or 18 or whatever and it will all be fine and dandy, probably. Or just shift the Tapulous HQ and bank account to a Tax haven :D – R0ck1t, on April 19, 2009 23:55

    R0ck1t
Ermm surely it's obvious, Queen, Queen, Queen and another Queen one. I have never purchased anything from the App store but if TapTap Queen came out I would pay like £15 for it, depending on how many songs it had with it.
Infact I want a Queen song on TTR so much I might make a whole suggestion topic next time I'm bored.

Just think of all the tunes that you could tap to, Another One Bites the Dust, Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, Seven Seas of Rye, Princes of the Universe, Flash. I could go on.

    TTR2 2.1.1 Tap Recognition Failure
After playing a good couple of games, rocketing me up the leaderboard, 'Get Smashed Gate Crash' comes on, which I rather like because I can 100%, however halfway through the song the game started randomly not responding to touches, loosing my streak and causing me to come 9th/30.

Also in 'Get Smashed Gate Crash' I find that it is also impossible to score points on all the shakes because the Phone recognises previous shakes as an early shake for the next arrow. Even when I shake it a really small amount and return to the central position asap I still find that the accelerometer must still be bouncing around or something because I can never score many points on that section and still keep the multiplier.

I also agree with the idea I read somewhere about having different levels of shake points like you do with normal taps. It's often online that when arrows appear that I move up/down depending on if I managed to get it in the microsecond time gap.

Also, I find that after a long session of tapping the battery in my iPhone is considerably drained and mid-song I get the 20% Battery left warning, this automatically pauses the game, however this still often looses me my streak. Is there any possible way of stopping this warning? I doubt it due to Apple restrictions but worth mentioning. (The recognition problem occurred when the iPhone was plugged in so I wouldn't suspect it's a power issue.)

Otherwise, awesome game, and just an Idea about preventing people hacking into the leaderboard and what have you, to prevent high scored over the maximum you could have the game store the time and length of each tap hold and shake and submit this instead or with the score. Then compare this with the 'notesheet' re-calculate the score on your server and use this. Although this may cause further lag issues it's just an idea.

Latest TTR2 Update: Non-Responsive to Touches, Crashing and Skipping!!
Ok, so I've had updates galore on my phone today/yesterday and thought I might finally be able to 100% a song online without the game crashing or jolting. But unfortunately no, It's finally pushed me to the point of complaining.

On a fully charged iPhone 3G 16GB, with an incredibly good router within swatting distance and pushing and popping and what have you turned off I still get bad gameplay.

Firstly the first three online games I tried to play just crashed the app (Yes I restarted after updating and after each subsequent crash), of course because of the new system this looses me 100 points, *sigh*, then when I do finally get playing a game (Losin' It) the stupid thing stops responding to touches, yes I was hitting the right place at the right time, It's one of my better songs, and then to add to my dismay rather than jolt as it used to I lost a good 5sec of the song, my streak and my temper and had to restrain myself from breaking a window and the iPhone.

Now I know that Apple are probably to blame limiting all sorts of things to developers and blah blah blah but could you please do something, tidy up the code, add a reduce sound quality option,I notice that the music never jumps and continues for a while even after the game crashes, (ooo I as type I see another post has been made reporting the same problems still, I would comment on that but look how much I've typed).

Anyway the game is awesome, however the fact that it skips and crashes and jumps is gonna cause many people many tumours and haemorrhages. I complain because I care.

    Cheers,
    R0ck1t.

(Also apparently I'm good at posting on here and have a high likelihood of my problem being noticed, yay?)
