Rachel M. Murray reported a problem in LinkedIn on October 28, 2008 17:17:
Character limits for fields - why?I've never heard of a site based on user generated content that actively limits the number of characters in a field. There's a limit of 2,000 characters for the summary field - and on top of that limitation, there are limits to the position description fields as well. I'm not technical, but I'm not quite understanding why a field in a database would have to be limited.
There are parts of LinkedIn that I do love, but general Usability 101 things like this (and issues around the usability and information design of the Groups section) just drive me batty. And maybe at some point there will be support for HTML in the fields, too?
Thanks! Hope to hear if this will change in the future.-

A comment on the question "What are the 5 features/changes you'd most like to see on LinkedIn? Why?" in LinkedIn:
Well said. Would like to see at least which groups have active discussions rather than having to manually click on each group. It's more of a UI and information design issue than expanding the functionality of groups, but that of course would be fantastic too. – Rachel M. Murray, on October 22, 2008 18:46-

Great little find for those trying to get organized - introducing the Pouchee!Fantastic little product you can purchase through Amazon. (link about it here: http://www.thisnext.com/item/72DC2987...). Perfect for those of us trying to get organized.
I like publicizing great finds (be they online or offline) and plan to do more for this cute little product and its owner, Anita I. Crook. Even if it's just doing a little social media marketing (Facebook Pages, StyleHive, ThisNext, GetSatisfaction etc.) I like helping out companies (ESPECIALLY small businesses) with good products and good customer service. A site like Satisfaction is important for those times when companies aren't respecting their customers, but also for those times when a company does something well - like build a great little product, like Pouchee.

Email notification bug is making me... buggy.Still having problems with getting notification emails after I've said I don't want any... I still get the " the following topic in the 'x' group on SlideShare has been posted' or 'so and so has uploaded a post to x group'.
I hate to complain since I do love the site and its UI, but pleeeease make it stop. I've set my email notifications to none in my profile, but Sunday I got three notifications. Help.

When is Delicious 2.0 coming out of beta? When is Delicious 2.0 coming out of beta? It was released in September 2007 and I'm curious as to their progress. The corporate blog is pretty dead, and I'm interested to see what the hold up is (UI? back end? Other issues within Yahoo? None of the above?)
I would easily add the same topic for Upcoming and any other product G.Y.M. (Google Yahoo Microsoft) they've bought and acquired. Like forgotten step children, we don't always hear of them. It would be good at least to know what the hold up is...-

Rachel M. Murray replied on February 29, 2008 19:24 to the discussion "Overcoming politics" in TransitCamp:
Fantastic question Joe - and it hits at the problems. TransitCamp was fantastic in brainstorming some of the topics, but the issue of politics (which governs so much of what happens in any topic) is so much harder to solve.
I had no idea there were 36 separate bodies.. that's just... crazy. And yes, there are other examples in the U.S. where amalgamation and a centralized agency does work (or having some sort of centralized agency running things - Boston, NYC, etc.). I think one of the first steps would be to map them out and figure out who covers what. As much as I love the populist nature of BarCamps, perhaps having a few urban planners, transportation engineers and other folks who have studied the problem might be useful - see if they can share what they know, and what other cities and areas have done about the problem.-

FYI - Had the same problem over on the MemoryTen page - can't start a topic. Tried it in Firefox 2.0 and IE 7 (sigh - I use a PC at work, sadly) and it didn't work - popup didn't show up in Firefox (just said 'javascript:' but had no call to action in that javascript) and IE showed a 'object doesn't support this property or method' on line 3 (yeah, typically helpful MS error message). Dunno if that will help you troubleshoot at all
