Raja Mohan Rao Nunna reported a problem in HP on June 27, 2009 09:27:
HP DV5000 / DV5200 Random Shutdown Issues !I own a HP DV5000 series Pavilion Notebook. The serial # is CND63230RZ and based on that, HP says the model is actually dv5200tx... whatever it is. The problem(s) with the laptop is that after around close to 1 and half of service, it started overheating and would shut down abruptly. I can't even run an anti-virus scan for that reason. Of course, the problem(s) surfaced after the warranty expirered... conveniently ! There were 2 other problems viz., rusting speaker grille and discoloured touchpad that HP replaced after raising a hue and cry. I spent a packet on the laptop and as a result, I maintain it very carefully and I am reasonably tech savvy to understand and troubleshoot standard issues.
Now this overheating issue however, is pissing me off because I believe it is an intrinsic defect that HP should rightfully take care of without charging me. HP won't agree with that. I have provided enough documentation and they continue to beat around the bush quoting their advisories saying it has not been reported on that. They won't share them with the customer though. One executive even went to the extent of proving an example of saying that all products have life cycles... say 2 years... indicating that the laptop was old and needed to be replaced at the customer cost. After continuing to raise a hue and cry, they said they will provide a discounted quotation to replace the parts. Guess what ! the discouted quotation was tantamount to buying a new computer ! Wish HP stops doing this and the governmental agencies start taking notice of these unfair practices ! Oh by the way, I am from India and purchased it in India. Therefore, I have also been told that USA advisories don't apply to India. Can you believe it? As if they have separate factories for each and every country they ship their products to...
