Yes, I really wanted to find this app useful, but I use my computer for both work and personal tasks. In particular, general productivity apps like Office (Word, Outlook). Further data on the URL would also be useful for tagging sites like Wikipedia. But mainly I have hours logged in Word and Outlook and no way to tell what I was doing. This makes my data pretty much useless. I look forward to returning (even *paying*) when I can accurately tag my usage. Thanks.

This would make the top of my list of "things that would make Rescue Time a must have". I have no problem paying for web services that help me stay productive. (Remember the Milk is the best $25 I ever spent), but I find it hard to use Rescue Time effectively when 50-60% of my time is spent off the computer.

I think Tony said it in the first response "We have some cool ideas around this that we'll hopefully get around to soon. Too much to do, too little time!" I know the feeling! ;) – Leslie Chicoine, on September 17, 2008 18:37

http://www.productiveflourishing.com/... has a useful analysis of RescueTime, including mentioning some things the team could do to improve it. http://jawmaster.wordpress.com/2008/0... underlines some other limitations.
I look forward to RescueTime being a tracker as well as a productivity saver.
I'll leave it running, but its insufficient in itself to not need something else to capture the documents in use.
Slife labs have an application. I'll try that next.

Rescue Time is a useful app alright, but it is quite a limitation to not recall the title of the application (thus store the document I was working on).
This is the same request for http://getsatisfaction.com/rescuetime... (presently 26 votes) and http://getsatisfaction.com/rescuetime... (17 votes).
Also, there's no timeline, so I can't scroll through the day. Timesnapper was much more useful in that regard, but I can't use it as there's no Mac version.

A comment/suggestion - if you could make the app track keyboard use as well as mouse use that would be great. I'm finding that it is regarding me as idle when I'm spending periods typing into Word and that risks the same time being counted twice, since RT will not see this as idle time. – Mark Posen, on August 21, 2008 12:45

I just want to say that this is an excellent little app and makes using Rescuetime so much more useful. I hope that the folks at Rescuetime will work with Darren to incorporate this functionality into the official product ASAP. – Mark Posen, on August 21, 2008 09:47

Thanks Travis. Obviously I must have been drunk over the past couple days to screw the link up this bad. I think it's corrected now but send me a comment if it's still screwy. – Darren, on August 19, 2008 17:06

FYI, the URL to use is
http://ddixon.castoracer.com/rescueid...
not
http://ddixon.castoracer.com/rescueid...
Case *does* matter. – TravisM, on August 19, 2008 16:58

Hehehe, I wish this thing could be cross platform but I simply don't know enough to do that. Hey, you could look at the source and adapt it for use under Mac OSX. The code is very simple. I'm actually hoping someone uses the code and really enhances the crap out of it since my code is really weak. – Darren, on August 19, 2008 16:54

After several attempts I finally found the typo in the link and got the source code link corrected

I can't download the source. It looks like there is a typo in the URL.
I also tried http://ddixon.castoracer.com/rescueid...
but that didn't work either (404 not found). – TravisM, on August 19, 2008 15:54
