Great User ExperienceCookster has a great thing going and its designer deserves some serious praise. Its got that people oriented Web2.0 feel while maintaining a classy design that I don't think will go out of style any time soon. The splash page is bold and attention getting gets the two main topic of the site on the user's mind. The attention to detail is really nice as well. I think the main text in the search bar is a nice touch and gives a level of intuition to the overall search functionality of the site and lets the user know quite quickly how things are categorized. The type design is well done and overall information design is solid. Great work and keep it up. The site makes me want to go out and cook.
Daniel reported a problem in cookstr on October 19, 2009 22:48:
Recipes site body text throws off the user. Quick fix.http://www.cookstr.com/recipes
Love the site design, but the body text of the top recipe [in this case: Easy as Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream] cuts off in such a way that I can only see the top pixel of text and it makes me look for a scroll that's not there. I'd implement a "read more" device, a scroll, or some local affect to show the user how to read the rest of the text. Or just a simple "..." at the end of the line and a fix on the pixel display would fix the issue.
I'm what you'd call web savvy and this still threw me for a moment. I see the "view this recipe" button but I don't associate it with the text box. I'm browsing on Firefox 3.5.3 on Max OSX Snow Leopard. I've attached an image to show the issue.
