The Refresh icon in the RSS widgets should be removed.

As a user, I expect the RSS widgets to refresh automatically, I don't want to click on the small Refresh icon of my 47 RSS widgets in order to read the latest news.

The problem with this is that when one tests a widget in the sandbox, it doesn't behave the same way as in real conditions, which makes it not very useful..

The reason of having a separate widget engine is to create a sandbox environment just for development and testing. To test in real conditions, please add your widget to the Development Panel inside of Bubbletop. you can enable this feature in your Profile panel.

Widget Preview is a great feature

but why use a different WidgetRq (http://dev.bubbletop.com/engine/WidgetRq) for Widget Preview (http://dev.bubbletop.com/widgetpreview/) than the one used on Bubbletop personal page (http://www.bubbletop.com/WidgetRq)?

it seems different/broken and thus does not enable to test the developed widget in real conditions

this is not specific to my widgets, i've seen this with other widgets too thanks to firebug

what takes the longest time is the call to http://bubbletop.com//WidgetRq?f=xml&...

and i think its speed could/should be improved

what i'm doing right now is to define a div with an id like this:

<div>
</div>

and then fill it with innerHTML:

document.getElementById('panel').innerHTML = 'content';

bubbletop could automagically create a div with an id to put the widget in, and then define a dimsuSys.setWidgetBody() to enable the programmer to fill the body of the widget

Depends on where is the widget users and where is the api the widget calls, the speed of WidgetRq may vary. can you send us an email to foundry@bubbletop.com about your widget? so we can have a test.

you are right, it is a bug of the development panel.
Like what you suggested, icon can also be defined in the widget preference tag
<widget-prefs>
icon="theicon.gif"
...
This attribute is for static or default icon. DimsuSys.setWidgetIcon allows you change icon dynamically.
