As Duncan Beevers notes, SSH-based transfers are preferable. Simpler, safer and easier to implement (unless you want support for plain text auth, then you better think twice as you'll need to fiddle with terminal emulation or use libssh). I would probably buy a license if you had an SCP option and ids packed as base-62.-

Rasmus Andersson replied on October 07, 2009 08:16 to the idea "What Are you listening to right now app" in Spotify:
Might be obvious, but this is currently possible by "scrobbling" (sending information about what you're listening to) through Last.fm. Creating an account on Last.fm is free and only takes a minute. Then, enter your Last.fm account details in the preferences view in Spotify. Now you can use or embed a multitude of "widgets", for instance one of the default ones at http://www.last.fm/widgets/chart?char...

Thank you Tim. We'll look into if this is possible. Adding a setting is scary since "if there's a setting for this case why not for these other 30 cases?" and you suddenly have a sea of obscure settings and options. We're all about simplicity and try to design our user interfaces for >=80% common use cases. – Rasmus Andersson, on October 07, 2009 08:08

Consider this: You receive a call, which causes Spotify to terminate (technically speaking), or close. Another case: You "switch" from Spotify to eg. the Text app (close and open), write a message and then switch back to Spotify, you would need to wait for Spotify to start and then manually resume playback.
In most cases when Spotify is closed and later opened again (according to Apple Human Interface Guidelines applications never "exit" but are only switched between) the user probably want to continue to listen to music.
You're welcome to prove me wrong of course.
Rasmus Andersson replied on October 06, 2009 15:12 to the idea "Favorites/bookmark and browse functionality" in Spotify:
We are actually working on this, as mentioned, alongside with many other things. A feature like this need to be executed in a very careful manner, since introducing "something" will most likely cause problems and later repairing/replacing one solution with another is a tricky thing to do (UX-wise).
If you have any thought-through and concrete suggestions please share them with us!
Thank you guys.

We are currently experiencing some problems. This page on our website displays the current status of our service: http://www.spotify.com/help/service-s... — if it says that we're having problems, you know you're not the only one and we're aware of it. Thanks!

There's a no-install-needed version available at http://www.spotify.com/download/spoti...
The application will still try to use peer-to-peer though.-
