Ryan D Johnson set one of Ryan D Johnson's replies as an official response to "Infinite SMS question" in innerfence
Ryan D Johnson replied on February 17, 2009 21:03 to the question "Infinite SMS question" in innerfence:
Hi, Elijah.
Google is providing free text messages, which is awesome, but they have some limits to try to protect people from spam. It makes sense if you think about it, because the recipient may still have to pay to receive the texts.
It is not true that you can only text 7 people, though it is true that if you text a certain number of people without having any of them reply, Google will block you from texting more people for a while or until they start replying.
We have heard rumors of some kind of limit related to 100 messages, but all of that started with one review in the app store. That person unfortunately never contacted us, so we don't know what kind of error message he was getting or anything. That review was posted the first day that Infinite SMS was available, so my theory is that Google may have thought he was a spammer if he sent 100 messages in just a couple of hours.

Hi, Joel.
We can't notify you of messages when Infinite SMS is open, so you do have to open the program to check for messages that were received when it wasn't open.
Sometimes the return messages can go to the wrong place if you're logged into Google Talk multiple places. For example, checking gmail in a browser, using Beejive, Adium, iChat, Trillian, Pidgin, etc.

Hi, Tom.
I don't really understand what you're trying to say or what it has to do with Larry's problem.
If you're having a problem of your own, feel free to email us at support@innerfence.com. – Ryan D Johnson, on February 17, 2009 19:07
Ryan D Johnson replied on February 17, 2009 07:48 to the question "2 way sms" in innerfence:
2-way means both send and receive, as opposed to 1-way or send-only.
We may be able to add some group messaging features in the future when we better understand some of the spam limitations that Google has added. Right now having that kind of feature seems like it's just asking for people to hit some of Rate Limits.
Ryan D Johnson replied on February 17, 2009 07:41 to the problem "PLEASE READ creators of SMS!" in innerfence:
Hi, Larry.
It's been a little while now. According to Google's Help, sometimes messages can be delayed.
If they still haven't been delivered, and there were no error messages, you may want to ask for help in the Google Forum for SMS.
Are all the phones you've tried on the same account? Sometimes the SMS routing information can be misconfigured for a phone, but it would be unusual for several phones on different plans to all have that problem.

Hi, you can read all the details here:
http://innerfence.com/sms/faq#free
There's nothing special about Google's text messages. There are some other free texting services that use special short codes that incur additional charges when a recipient replies. But Google doesn't do that, they're just normal texts.
So if your friend has an unlimited texting plan, then it will be free for them to receive messages and send them to you. And since you're using Infinite SMS, it's free for you to send and receive. So neither of you will pay anything when you exchange messages.

Here's what we know about carriers, including that Metro PCS doesn't seem to be supported. There seem to be some small regional carriers and pre-paid phone carrires that don't work with Google:

Yes, one of the major features of Infinite SMS is that it adds 2-way SMS to your iPod touch.

Hey, can I keep the account you sent me for testing? Or can you create me a new @googlemail.com account instead? I'm not sure when I'll get around to fixing it, but when I do I'm going to need a way to test it. – Ryan D Johnson, on February 15, 2009 16:31
Ryan D Johnson replied on February 15, 2009 05:09 to the question "Where is the background stored?" in innerfence:
There is no background right now, it's just a solid color. I've never messed with a jailbroken iPhone, so I don't know if there are tools to easily add a background. Within the app bundle you could theoretically change the en.lproj/ThreadView.nib file to have a background image. But that's pretty advanced and would invalidate the application signature.
We're thinking about adding some personalization features in the future, but probably not in the next update (we're working on Delete, Big Keyboard, and Audio Notification).
